Shell stuck in 858 help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!pics!

Get anything long enough that doesn't bend when you out pressure on it and is able to run the full length of the bore to the back of the stuck case when you put it in. Spray in some WD-40, let it sit for 5 minutes and bash it out.

I don't care what it is. The last time this happened to me my old cleaning rod kit was too short, I made up the difference with ball bearings.

Don't worry so much about damaging your bore. Needing a brass rod is like saying you need to use a silk rag and wax polish to clean the shovel you use to shovel s**t. :D

It may be "only a CZ" but a suitable brass rod for a .30 cal can be used in other rifles as well after the stuck case is removed and they are cheap....
You sound like someone who uses chisels as screwdrivers because hey "it works"....

This works wonders. I always use bore mops for lacquer thinner and then Butch's Bore Shine. Haven't had a shell get stuck yet. I've heard the brass cases get stuck more often or shear off sometimes, so I stick to steel cases.
 
No, you just need to clean your rifles.

I've got thousands and thousands of rounds through two different VZ and never had a stuck case.
 
as I said in my previous post, I have been, every time, I've just never heard of cleaning it with acetone and nowhere does it say to.

Not hardly.

I imagine most of the people who have stuck cases issues may get their bore clean, but don't pay as much attention to the chamber.

please WD40 works wonders! "don't be so cheap" East Indian accent.

this jam was caused by lack of cleaning or! it was a new rifle filled with cosmoline, which brings us back to why did you not clean your rifle.

guess you learn your lesson.

Oh man, you guys have no idea. Lacquer is easy to deal with. I'm not ragging on anyone here, just sharing a story.:D

I was at a comp out here and I was pleased to see some other guys with 858's. We get out the firing line and start on the first match. Everyone gets going and this one poor sod has a malfunction. He was as I say shooting an 858.

So, he's got a stuck case, a cleaning rod is produced and after much screwing around the case is banged free. It was not glued in with lacquer, but stuck on the rust in buddy's chamber. I, like everyone else on the firing line, was horrified. The chamber and bore was covered solidly with rust. :eek:

Appearantly, he'd gone shooting in the rain with surplus ammo and then hadn't cleaned it for the weeks leading up to the comp. It was nasty.

A little lacquer build up is easy all in all considered.

Personally I think a solvent is very helpful to keep the chamber clean, but also I think we can all agree that diligent and disciplined cleaning is a necessity for trouble free operation.
We make a lot of noise about a great many things, but we often forget to mention the little details that can go a long way.

Yes I do use chisels and screw drivers. I use chisels to chisel wood and screw drivers to turn screws.

You sound like a guy who treats his rifle like a pet instead of a tool because hey "It's shiney"
 
Hey sorry if this suggestion has already been made but I saved myself the reading and skipped to page 10. Anyways my 858 has had this problem for awhile now, usually jams up around round 40 if I do not let her cool down. This is strictly a result of shooting around 8000 rounds of that corrosive junk through it. I had my chamber polished, but as good as it looks to the eye, stick a 20x bore scope in there and the metal looks like swiss cheese. As the rifle heats up during fire, the laquor becomes solf and fills up in the chamber like a sponge. Best way to get your round out is to heat the shell/chamber up good and hot with a heat gun. After its been heated it shouldnt take much to tap it out with a cleaning rod and a hammer. Other way to do it is to bang it out immediatly after it happens at the range, usually I do not need a hammer if im quick.

Aside from that I would like to solve the problem, seems to me the only way to get rid of it is to put in a new barrel and be dillegent about cleaning!!
 
The JB bore paste polishing trick works great for the Mosin Nagant "sticky bolt syndrome" too, gets rid of all the caked on cosmo and laquer from surplus ammo. Iraquiveteran8888 on YouTube gives a great demo on how to do the procedure.

The first thing to do is fill the barrel with a good penetrating oil and leave sit for atleast a day.
I would not recomend wood for this job, if it splinters and piles up on it's self you'll be in a world of hurt belive me I know.I have done this before using a steel rod WRAPPED in tape to protect and make a snug fit in the barrel so that the rod won't flex when you tap it. Make the rod as short as you can but keep in mind that hitting the crown is bad. A friend to help is good too.
Your lucky though, when I had to do this it was a live round stuck in the chamber.

Rona has aluminum rods that fit down a barrel, it should come out if he hits it hard enough. WD40 down the barrel won't hurt it, may free it up.
