Went to the range today and one of the empties got stuck in the barrelt without ejecting! This seems to happen all the time with surplus ammo but NEVER with hunting ammo. Its incredibly annoying and for some reason I cant seem to shoot a clip without at least one FTE. Now this round is stuck, ive tried needle nose pliers, ive tried using the cleaning rod to poke it out the other side (ramming it as hard as I can) but it wont budge! Any ideas?

 
The surplus ammo is steel case coated with laqure to prevent rust. It has built up in you gun and as you use it the laqure gets hot and soft causing the shell to stick. Clean it well and often when using steel case surplus.
 
I dad that problem too with my SVT40.
What I did: I cast a lead mould in the chamber and lapped it with diamond compound; shiny clean now and never happened again.
 
it gets cleaned every use guys, what you see is wheel bearing grease rather than dirt. Ive tried ramming the rod down the barrel, no luck...
 
try a piece of hardwood doweling or a long brass rod to hammer it out , it shouldn't damage anything any more than it is .

btw the dowling or brass rod needs to be really close to the size of the barrel to work .

the other option is to take it to a gunsmith . the last thing you want to do is to chew the hell out of it and not have it come out , making the gunsmiths job latter on really difficult .

Do not cut the head off! That thing is your best friend right now!
The first thing to do is fill the barrel with a good penetrating oil and leave sit for atleast a day.
I would not recomend wood for this job, if it splinters and piles up on it's self you'll be in a world of hurt belive me I know.I have done this before using a steel rod WRAPPED in tape to protect and make a snug fit in the barrel so that the rod won't flex when you tap it. Make the rod as short as you can but keep in mind that hitting the crown is bad. A friend to help is good too.
Your lucky though, when I had to do this it was a live round stuck in the chamber.
 
Should i spray some brake cleaner in there first to try and dissolve any other wax or crap that might be in there or guns spray and pray lol?

then it will be much harder to extract, and you might end up having to file down the case inside the chamber, that could be tricky.

hammering it out is probably your best option. By alternating heat and cold, and a bit of wd40, you should be able to get it to budge.
 
A good creeping oil and some time will be good. As for cleaning the chamber after it comes out use acetone and a brass brush on a drill,works wonders.
 
Wow, i never would have thought of that! Of course that skeleton stock is a PITA to take on and off but in this case worth it. If I ever get that round out of there that will be the first thing I do lol. Thanks

like everyone else has said on here put a brass rod down the barral and pound it out I used that method before on a few difrent guns it works great ...and what ever you do dont trim or cut the head off the stuck case :eek: thats your best buddy right now.
 
Where the heck do you find a 20" long brass rod? Metal supermarket maybe?

Ive never used wheel bearing grease to lube a semi auto before, simply cause it gets everywhere, and as such if a glob goes on a new bullet and into the chamber, it will fill the gap between the chamber and the shell, making the shell seize in. Try good old break free instead of grease...just my 2 cents.
