This is the early version with the hold down safety(1952-63)
Shoots .20 cal Sheridan pellets(14.3) between 750 and 780 fps  Blew a hole clean through a peice of pine I had as a backstop. It came with a plastic cover that snaps over the barrel. My guess is it was to keep from wearing the paint off.

Excellent gun! I've got two, one like that I bought in the late 70's and a newer one that has the square trigger guard and buttplate. I prefer the older one over the newer one.
I think it's time to put in a rebuild kit in the old one and I'll google Pyramyd Air.

I just bought a used model very similar to the photos. Pleased to hear from other owners. One of the attractive features on the one I bought was a Williams peep sight already installed. Any recommendation for a brand of pellet to buy? Any way to tell when one was manufactured? Mine also has the plastic barrel guard. Thanks for any assistance.

I currently have two sheridan rifles.

One is the old model Silver Streak with the thumb safety.
I have disabled the safety, as I find it impossible to bend my hand to pull the trigger at the same time as I am pressing down the safety with my thumb.

I have owned a dozen Sheridans over the years. They are great guns.
I find I get the best accuracy as well as the most punch, with the Sheridan cylindrical pellets. The sharp edges cut a clean hole in paper or vermin.
I use my Sheridan around the farm, to dispatch crows, starlings, mice, etc.

The plastic handguard gives a person a secure place for the hand holding the rifle, while pumping the action. the guard snaps-on in front of the action and behind the rear sight.

The scope mounts generally take the place of the handguard, when a scope is installed.

Yay Sheridan Eh!
