Sheriffs partner with Fish and Wildlife officers during hunting season

Very true when those enforcing the law know the law....the rub comes when they don't. I'm guessing the Sheriffs aren't that familiar with the Wildlife Act and unfortunately, some try to cover this lack of knowledge with attitude. I've seen this far too often with provincial park rangers that I'm a bit jaded I guess. Not all do and I'm all for extra enforcement but I shouldn't have to explain the law to those charged with enforcing it. No knock against the Sheriffs but let them give speeding tickets and let F&W do F&W work.

I've had a fair amount of experience with Sheriff's on Highway 63, all of it bad. They collectively (at least the one's I know) don't have the knowledge or wisdom to interpret game laws, particularly in any situation where even the slightest shade of grey exists. If you have any doubts about that ask any RCMP officer his opinion.

I bet in that post I had made last week about dispatching the wounded deer in the field without a tag a sheriff would have called SWAT on me.

3 times on the Trans Canada highway between Strathmore and Chestemere, I have seen more than 15 Cars with lights flashing. RCMP, Sherriffs, Bylaw, Fishcops etc. Glad I was driving the car as they were searching every SUV and truck. Even had a couple of Uhaul's pulled in.
