Sherman Cartridges

Guy doesn't reply to emails. Sent an email almost a year ago and no reply.
I was interested in the 270 Sherman. Wanted to order a chamber reamer and possibly brass. And ask a few questions.

The biggest improvement to come along have been in powders, bullets and fast twist barrels. Brass is just your combustion chamber and basing off the ubiquitous 30-06 makes sense.
I have a .270 Gibbs that runs scary fast with Rl26.

There is a lot of discussion about Sherman cartridges on Snipers Hide. The conclusion seems to be there is no such thing as a free lunch. Velocity=pressure with similar volume cases and calibers.

What's scary fast? I'm asking because I'm interested in how much more velocity can be expected over the standard 270.

I’ve got 130 grain accubonds shooting good at 3330 FPS. I think Rl26 is good in the 270 win as well but expect I’m about 200 fps faster.

I looked at the 30 Sherman magnum. Didn't think there was really that much improvement over the 300 PRC. Basically and AI version of it anyways.

Looked like a hassle.

Your right...... that is scary fast! I'm lucky enough to have RL 26. I will see what I get with it. I'm getting 3050-3100 fps with H4831 sc. Was that from a 24" or 26" barrel?

I shot h4831 to 3150, wasn’t accurate. Imr 4350 shot well but hit pressure at 3275. Rl26 is sub Moa at 3330 and despite no sign of pressure I thought it prudent to stop. The Gibbs is a straight walled case and I expect it won’t show pressure like one with a taper. I never measured my brass for expansion but have about a truck load of 30-06 brass so don’t really care if I only get a few firings.
Reloader 26 is a bit of a funny animal but is my favorite, I use that sh!t on everything.

I've had many results similar to these groupings and velocity from my 270 Winchester. I haven't shot it in the past several months, moved on to other cartridges. Alliant #26 has been an excellent powder for by 240 Wby., 270 Win. and 300 H&H. I've reduced my load to 60.0 grains in the 270 win which resulted in better accuracy. I'm in the process of studying the 277 Sig Fury.

Ruby76 I know you have a 338 Sherman short Can you share some FPS with bullet weights for us - Pls - Thxs RJ

I just chopped my barrel down to 22” and had to drop my old load by a grain. so I’ll have to re check. I’m shooting a 225 ttsx, was at 2800 with a 25.5” barrel. 230 eldx was at 2775, and a 250 berger was at 2700
