Shhhhhhh.....

So last night I took it out for an impromptu shooting and I found that it has a crack similar to a .22 and you can hear the bolt cycling. What neat is you can now hear the bullet travelling and impacting which I couldnt hear before because the rifle is so loud. Accuracy is about the same as before, tomorrow im going to the range to resight if need be and double check. But its totally comfortable to shoot all day long without hearing protection. Its no louder than a .22. Im trying to find subsonic ammo, tomorrow at the range I will take video.

You big tease!

OK came back from the range.... and the accuracy is unaffected and for comparison there was a guy shooting a Walther P22 and everyone including the owner of the P22 noted that his gun is much much louder than my suppressed AR... im happy as hell.

Generally a can will outlast several barrels.

Any decent 556 can will bring the muzzle blast down below 140 dB (hearing safe). A .22 rimfire pistol runs around 150 dB so yes a suppressed 556 is considerably quieter.

One thing I have noticed is the absolute sound level of suppressed vs unsuppressed shots isn't the only determining factor in how a shot sounds. For example a suppressed .30 cal rifle actually sounds louder to the ear than an unsupressed .22 rimfire rifle. Yet the sound meter shows the .30 cal to be quieter and moving downrange, the suppressed .30 cal is absolutely silent where the rimfire rifle sounds clearly like a gunshot. It has something to do with the frequency mix of each event being different.

Check out youtube under suppressor the surefire in the video blows apart under full auto stress
That I'd like to see. Surefire makes some bloody good cans and I have seen pics of them glowing red so I'd a bit scheptical of one blowing up.

Here is a pic of a Surefire suppressor glowing bright red during torture testing. This is off the Surefire website.

Four year old pic......after three 30s............anything new?
I'm a bit befuddled as to how the age of the pic means anything?

No 556mm sound suppressor on the planet will glow red like that after only 90 rounds. I can attest to this having done sound suppressor torture testing personally. It takes lots more than 90 rounds to get a can glowing red. Where exactly are you getting your "information"?

Here is a pic of a can I personally put 90 rounds through on FA and it isn't even close to red hot. In fact it is only starting to burn off the oil so it isn't even all that hot.

I don't think I need to find anything new. Someone made the assertion that Surefire cans blow up on video and has been unable to furnish such video. The above pic proves a Surefire suppressor can be brought to a red hot state without blowing up. A feat that isn't exactly easy.

Heres a question since the thread is already here; What do the internals of a modern silencer look like? I did a bit of reading on some including the MP5SD. Apparently the MP5SD silencer design is outdated by todays standards, but I couldent find much about what a new one is like on the inside.

Heres the inside of the mp5sd.

Most guys use a stack of similer designed baffles, my self included, the big guys use some far out materials, beond my means as I don't have that capability yet, But I'm not going for full auto. I'm concentrating on 308. Suputin was doing well with his rimfire line. Ask him to post some pics of his design. if I can find the link I'll post some of them. As for my design, can't let it fall into the wrong hands.
