If I have a 300 Win Mag 11 series savage rifle with the standard 24 inch hunting barrel, will I need to modify the stock in order to fit a heavy shilen bull barrel?

If so can the stock modifications be done myself? Or Or would it be easier to just get a new tactical style stock?

Thanks for your help

A bull barrel is 1 inch diameter so hell yes you have to modify the stock! Simple as taking a 1 inch dowel and wrapping it in sandpaper and going to work with some elbow grease! Now those Shillen Barrels are gonna take several months on order anyways so I would look into getting a Boyds Laminate stock and have it opened up and bedded and mounted by whoever is doing the barrel! Shouldnt cost you much more than an extra $300 all said and done!

Bedding the rifle will provide a little more stability. The barrel adds a lot of weight forward and bedding will help the action stay in place better. It may take up to 7 months for a barrel to arrive.

Ya i figured that was the case. I Will try and figure out the costs. It might just be easier getting one of the tactical models in 308 instead.

Thanks for the replies
