Hi I have a Farmingdale shilo sharps military rifle in 45/70. It has the crescent butt with a patch box. Excellent wood on the butt stock and case hardening. Larwrence ladder rear sight and blade front. Does anyone have any idea how much this gun is worth. I know what Shilo lists them out for but not what they go for on the used market. thanks for any info. Kevin.

Used Shilohs go for almost as much as new ones in Canada, due to the wait and cost involved in getting new ones. Most Shilohs in good or better shape go for 2500 plus here in Canada, at least that's what they want for the ones I've seen. Because they are scarce, sellers bump the price up to where you could buy a new one. I'm not sure however, about your particular model, military models and carbines may go for less as most want the long, heavy, barrelled, Buffalo type which are also good for Competition.

I'm on the Shiloh forum, and there is an ongoing debate as to the relative merits and quality of the Farmingdale-made guns as opposed to current production.
From the pictures they post and the conversations I've had with the Shiloh people, I'd be inclined to agree with that.
The most I ever paid (two years ago) was $1500 for a 50-70 Military Rifle. I recently swapped an excellent Remington 6mm with Bushnell 3200 scope for an unfired Farmingdale .50 '63 persussion carbine.
What the guys are telling you is correct. The military models are not as popular as they are not well suited to BPCR Silhouette game. However, I'm into military re-enacting and have an interest in them.
I could be interested in your rifle as a companion piece to my 50-70. Send me a PM and we can discuss it.

A 45-90 Farmingdale that I bought here on these forums for $2500, and I also have a 40-90 that I bought 2nd hand from the US.
I had Shiloh build me a $5000 45-110 last year.

Hi folks. Sorry I left you guys out in the cold. I guess I was so excited about this site I forgot about all the things I got into. My gun is not near as fancy as Conan's. It has an oil finish and color case action and fittings. The barrel is blued. I am toying with the idea of selling it because I would like to buy a night force scope for my bench rest rifle. I think it was a presentation piece as it has a spot on the fore stock just in front of the action that looks like it had a rectangular plaque nailed to it with flat antique nails. Some one has pried it off with a knife and marked up the wood. I inquired about a new stock and they said they would send me one. It doesn't have the double set triggers. Once again sorry for losing the thread and thanks for the info. I will let you know if I decide to sell. Kevin.
