shiloh sharps 54 bullet

There are alot of diff. Ringtail designs for .54 sharps bullets if Paper cartridges are in your plans, most are .540"-.544" at their widest point. I have 2 in inventory(molds), a .540 hollow base conical and a .540 Plains bullet, note, these are not ringtail and for conventional(muzzle)loading in the percussion Sharps....Ben
 
Actually Ben, what I do with your bullets is roll nitrated paper into a cylinder, glue, then slide the paper roll over the bottom grease grove....Tie it off with thread, then pour in the blackpowder and glue the end shut....2" groups at 25 yards...I`m happy:D

...As for load data, I use 50gr (by volume) of Pyrodex Pistol (FFFg)... Still Happy...

I use a flat based round nose bullet from NEI in mine with good results and I also have an original wadcutter design buffalo bullet made by Shiloh for their percussion Sharps
when they first came out.
 
.54 Bullets

One of my Shiloh '63s is their .54 Sporter.

I use Charlie Hahn's thin cardborad tubes which snap over the base on my NEI .54 'ChristmasTree' bullets. For extra security, a bit of glue helps hold them together.
You cut them to length to suit your chamber. Sure beats the hell out of what I go thru' for my .50 percussion Sharps.

Plug the other end with a piece of paper towel or cigarette paper and fill 'em to suit.
I also roll paper tubes with the Lee .54 Minie and they shoot like a hot damn as well. Holds a LOT more powder than the tubes!

I've benn getting long strings without the action binding up lately by filling the breechblock cavity with lithium grease - 28 rounds consecutively before I ran out of ammo. Not a bobble.
I think I could have gotten more had I had the ammo.
