We had a great milsurp match here in Shilo on the 24th of June. A total of 9 three man teams competed. It was hot and dry, which added to the challenge of carrying that damn 1919, tripod and ammo, Unfortunately, I was too busy with match administration as well as shooting to take any photos, so here is the thread for those who did.

The door prize ( a VZ858 tactical rifle) was drawn afterwards, and won by a very young shooter...so young the rifle will have to be transferred to his dad.

The M1919A4 rocked. I was firing it in 8mm and it almost does the aiming itself. One downside to it is it doesn't always recognise when a target is down (it is an area weapon after all) and managed to damage some of the falling plate targets. Guess I'll have to fire up the welder before the next match.

There were some great uniforms worn, and a nice cross selection of period weapons used. And best of all, there was NO SNOW, which we normally have during our matches in this location. Even the bugs co-operated. They didn't really show up until it was time to tear down, at which time there were a few leaf cutter bee bites awarded (I got one myself).

All glory to CFB Shilo Gun Club for one helluvva fine day!

It was a ball for those of us who attended and didn't shoot, and it was 10 times as much fun for the guys carrying the blazing-hot .30 Browning through the obstacle course......... maybe. But it was GREAT.

Yeah, another great match. I'll have some pics up when I get back from redneck territory (Arkensas). I've also got a little video of Rob blazing away with his .30 (or shall I say, 8mm?).

You guys should see all the stuff down here. You walk into a gunshop and there are FA's for sale, as well as a huge cabinet of 30 round (AR, AK, Sterling, etc) mags. I had to rent a little Sig .380 to see what it was like to shoot a 12(6).

I have just come from sending a CD (of the pics I shot) to the Shilo GC.

Sorry for not posting, but
(a) I don't know how to post to CGN, and
(b) the files are freakin' HUUUUGE.

Here are some pics from the D-Day match

With thanks, and photo credit to smellie, here are some of his photos from the match.

Everyone met at Range control, which features a German Marder as a gate guard.

Once at King OP, and the administration finished, we quickly got to the shooting.

The competing teams would start from the boxes and run up to their locations. There are a few CGN members in these photos.

Here are a few shots of the various teams shooting from the ground position.

I am the fool who carried a spare 250 round belt of ammunition to a 10 minute match. You can see my webbing is somewhat pulling me backwards, as the ammo is stowed in the smallpack. I only carried partial belts after that.

With the task of soundly thrashing the opposing team in the ground level,(right gunasaurus?? :) ) we prepare to move. The 1919 barrel gets hot enough to burn eggs, so care had to be taken.

As each team would complete the ground level, they would have to move through the obstacle course.

Firing from the top of the bunker. One had to be careful climbing up...the blood and guts award was won this year by someone who didn't quite make the last tactical bound.

Here team James gets in to the family wagon to head out and re-set targets.

There was some good shooting, although quite frankly, the guys seemed to make the sniper shot better at the December Battle of the Bulge. Final results were :
1st place overall: Team Janzen
2nd place (as I always say, second place in a battle is nothing to brag about: the honour is shared with the likes of France, Japan, and Italy) went to team Derin. The difference in the two teams was 1 plate and the stop pin
1st place B div: Team Leblanc, who beat out the other team by the amount of time it took the pin to hit the ground. Extremely close match.
Best uniform went to team Tallman.
A wiley member of team Janzen took the blood and guts award, which was a first aid kit.
The door prize of a VZ858 tactical went to a member of the Tallman team. Thanks to John at Wolverine supply who (once again) cut the gun club a favourable deal on the purchase.
All awards were given out at the follow up dinner

Note the lush green fields here in Shilo right now. Normally these would be starting to turn brown about now..it has been a terrific year for the grass. Unfortunately for Derk Derin, the poison ivy located on the left flank of the match was also in good form, and he now reports that it has left him somewhat itchey, blistered, and rashed.

Excellent summation of the match Rob, and yes, our butts still hurt from the first shoot-out between your team and mine, but hey, we came back to win B div by a hair.......great pics (me with the Nagant Sniper BTW)!

Heres a shot of Russ demonstrating his PGW50 cal during lunchbreak. He made short work of a 18" steel plate @ 300+ yds (1st shot and left a thumbsize hole through it), so he took a bunch of shots at a Leopard tank parked 1.7 km away. Hard to say if he was hitting it: it did not blow up the way it would have if Arnold Scwarzenneger had shot it.

Here is another shot of the winning team. Note that real men don't suck their guts in for pictures. ;)

I find that the M1919 has certain slimming qualities to it. I lost 5 pounds that day (since refound).

Yes.....I was quite disappointed that the tank didn't blow up into a million pieces and a big fire ball after the first shot...like the movies:popCorn:

But were on earth is a civie aloud to take pot shots at a leopard tank...:D

I had a great time...met some great people, that were more than willing to give advice on how to make my 1919 rock just a little better....

You Shilo boys know how to put together a great match....Right down to the young ladies cooking the hot dogs and selling drinks;) (pop and water)

Next year we make my boy the sniper and prairiemedic can shoot the close ones:p

Russ...

Hey Matt, how about putting up the photo your dad took showing my nose after that nasty scope bite from the day before? If I had just timed that one better, I could have aced the blood and guts award, thanks to a combination of high blood pressure and the sharp edge of a REL no32mk3 scope.
