Shim a scope in warne rings?

How do you shim a scope in warne type rings ? same procedure as regular rings that have screws on top? what material I`ve heard pop can, credit card, .

I can't see any shim working for elevation.Traditional rings with top halves will accommodate some shimming but it appears that there is no way to let a shim move the scope up.

Side screw rings can not be lapped either...

You don't shim rings inside the ring... think about it... if the ring is made to fit a 1 inch scope and you place shim material 20 thick inside the ring... now the ring is going to be compressing into the scope tube 20 thou... shimming rings is done under the ring or under the base. Or in the case of differently designed rings Burris Signature rings) off set inserts are made to do the job.

I know a lot of guys like them but I have mixed emotions about Warne and generally avoid them... goes back to a time I needed weaver style bases in steel to fit a tubular receiver .. the bases only had to fit the screw spacing (both identical) and of course be the same height. Talked to the factory to confirm the screw spacing AND just reconfirmed that the setup was for a perfectly tubular receiver eg bases needed to be same height (and same radius) -- what I got "looked" pretty good but my Starrett dial calipers disagreed....the bases were dissimilar thickness. Probably they are lot better now.

My only complaint with Warner is weight. I have a set of detachable so on an inline muzzleloader that never move and a set of non detachable so on my varmint rig. Both maxima series. For what it's worth, I did run the lapping rod thru both pairs with no ill effects.
