Shim washers

I want to put a shim between the bbl and the receiver on my take down shotgun to take up the jiggle. How thick should it be? For example should it take some torque to make it index properly? So I'm guessing it should be somewhat thicker than the gap width?

"...put a shim..." Not a good idea. Find out why it's not fitting proprly and fix it.

You should find out why the problem but a washer is not a problem, lots of rifles use them. Look at a Rem 700.

It's a greener police shotgun, the threads are a running fit, don't know why, I still think it's safe to use, as it was checked out by a smith already. The reason is the shoulder is set about .005" for some reason, probably due to the limitations of production at the time. And I can't very well send it back to the factory to get it fixed hein?
