Good day, I recently saw an advertisement for some .45 Colt at a reasonable price so I venture over to their website to make a purchase. Once there, I see that they have the "anything more than a $300 purchase will ship free", so I buy more than $300 (worked out to almost $400 with tax) and I notice an almost $80 shipping fee!?

Needless to say this reasonably priced ammo is not so reasonable at all, I pump the breaks. Today the outfit asks for emt to complete the purchase and I point them to the shipping fee that needs to be corrected first, they tell me, and get this, that as they're shipping dangerous goods, there's a fee for that. I told them that's a deal breaker for me, and to cancel the order.

What say you guys, have you ever been charged "dangerous goods fees" for ammo before? I've order all sorts of ammo and powder before, never such a charge, is this outfit just skimming off the top (and bottom, and sides...etc., etc.?)?
 
I've not had a dangerous goods fee, but I have seen where they force the use of a courier for an unreasonable amount. Due to shipping companies or their contractors being unwilling or unable to ship them. We are slowly losing our ability to ship across country with things like ammunition due to either liability issues the company thinks they don't want to deal with, or ideological reasons.
 
Welcome to Trudeau's New Canada ; it won't be a surprise if everything firearm related eventually gets banned from shipping as carriers don't want the hassle and the risk associated with it ......it is just a matter of time it seems .
 
Not sayin' who that is ? I've seen Tenda does Free with 'over $300'. I assume they mean incl ammo ?
Sounds like 'your' vendor is trying "Bait & Bill Extra" type of scam. Is your $-savings there making up for the DG fee ? You're lucky, some people wouldn't have 'caught' that extra charge b4 sending the payment. EMT request is a flag, too. I'd pay CC for anything on-line, for the 'security'
of the CC being 'back-charge-able'.
BTW, I've spent K-$ on EE so EMT is not the issue there, just from a Vendor. Sounds flaky to me.
 
Ammunition has been a listed dangerous goods commodity for as long as there has been a dangerous goods list, which is several decades. Whether or not the shipper hides the cost in the ammo, or calls it a 'shipping and handling' fee, or spells it out distinctly as what it is, the cost is there (assuming they are shipping properly). Yes, it's a factor in ammo cost. No, I don't think the dealer is doing anything dishonest. If you don't like it, shop local.

Several vendors here have an 'exclusion' of their free shipping for ammo, and say so on their website.

This is what I thought. Perhaps an oversight, and the vendor was "fixing" the F-up with a hazardous materials charge? If that were the case, and he told me they f'd up, I wouldn't even have bothered with a post. I make mistakes, we all do, I don't let it get in the way of my day...but I think he just tried to bs me, which kinda pisses me off?
 
I have been told by a vendor my address is to rural and need to pay extra for shipping, i said really your courier chosen for delivery is 1km from my home, ship it to them and i will pick it up. Told nope pay extra . I said keep you ammo and cancel the order for 2 firearms they didnt see some how, there was back pedaling on their part, but i didnt care for the shake down and cancelled the order.

you want/need pay otherwise do not and cry ... i may need to add nothing is free in this world unless you re a liberal ...
 
There are places that will ship ammo for a reasonable price (or even free), and there are places that don't. Just don't shop there.

Unless you live in BC and the second digit of your postal code is a "0" which is a heck of a lot of the province

I haven't seen any 'good deals' at cabelas/BP for years. Their Free Shipping is et up by their high prices. At least Tenda has good prices, just get a couple guys together to make the $300 if you don't need that much.
Buy cheap, Stack Deep. If you know someone who lives where couriers DO GO use them as a drop?
