Shipping COD: What do I need to know?

I was just posting so people would get an idea of how COD works currently, that's all! It wasn't directed against you or anything. I'm glad you posted your experience (even if it was slightly outdated). It helped me take a decision if I wanted to proceed.

Regarding your question: I paid shipping and COD costs (8$) up front, but I told the guy at the post office to add these on top of the amount the person had to pay to get the package. This is what was negotiated with the buyer.

This thread is correct, in that if the buyer would of backed out, it would of been a bummer for me and I would of lost some money. That's for sure. Family health issues on my part dictated that I had to sell rather quickly, so I was willing to chance it ;-/

Well unless others pipe up with similar fast smooth experiences. You cannot say that all COD payments will be this smooth or fast.

In this day and age, it is a outdated payment method. Mainly left for those still writing cheques. I can see in a decade or two, that the services will be rendered void, once the Baby boomer generation is all gone.
 
What I don't understand is...what's the point. I mean...it doesn't prove anything. It's not because you receive a box that's it's what you ordered.

Anyways, moot point to debate this over again.

It's certainly not the way of the future!

What I do not understand - you asked and were advised several times not to do so, but went ahead and did so anyways. And it sounds like all worked out to your satisfaction - "all is well that ends well". Good on you for the result that you got. Was sort of waste of time for the rest of us ...

Not quite, I was wondering if there were pitfalls where someone could, for exemple, keep the item without paying, etc. That sort of things and nothing of the sort was mentionned.

I had already established that the buyer seemed legit interested in the item, so I knew he was going to be accepting the package.

I think most comments are half right in saying “don’t”. You can still see the box. And if the box for whatever reason was the original gun box with the manufacturer written on it (gun bubble wrapped inside) then you’d be better off going it COD cuz you can see he actually at least had the box. Are you guys really just trusting sellers on a 2-4k gun and hope it shows up???

Also another forum (not sure if I’m allowed to mention here but I guess I’ll find out if I’m banned) gun post says in they’re online buyer protections guide to do COD.

You were very lucky. I had a guy buy a scope off me and wanted COD to rural New Brunswick. He picked it up about 8 weeks ago. I've still not seen my cheque from Canada Post.
 
I was going to say that in todays environment of Canada Post not collecting signatures and actually dropping off ammunition on my doorstep and leaving, I would not trust the collection being made. Would the CP employee get fired for not collecting....nah.
 
I use to run a business in the ealry 90s and did CODs quite often, most times everything was fine, but we also dealt with losse. Sometimes the product was returned without payment. After spending the time and money to ship everything. The items were returned us.

In this day an age with the many forms of payment we have, COD is out for me. If my customers want the product the will pay by by Visa,Mastercard, EMT, Cash etc etc.
