Hey guys,

I'm looking into selling one of my rifles in the EE.

I was just wondering what the best way to mail the firearm is?

I'm assuming it would be to use Canada Post. I googled this and found this:

http://www.canadapost.ca/tools/pg/manual/PGnonmail-e.asp#1378242

which basically states the following:

Customers who wish to ship firearms must:
unload the firearms
attach a secure locking device to the firearms
lock the firearms in a sturdy, non-transparent container, and
remove the bolt or bolt carrier from any automatic firearms (if removable).

Now, I have never used the rifle and it's still in the original box. How do I go about this? Can I reseal it or will I have to put a trigger lock on the rifle and ship in a case?

Thanks

I shipped one not long ago. I put a trigger lock on, taped the crap out of the box so it wouldn't open and shipped it off with the signature option. I sent the key for the trigger lock seperately and earlier. Canada post didn't even ask what was in the box.

Double box the rifle and ship. Done!

You're going to get a lot of differing opinions. The above is just my .02 cents. I've shipped two shotguns using this method. Shotgun broken down in it's original box. No trigger lock. Double boxed. Ship with signature and insurance options.

I'm not real worried about breaking Canadapost "policy".
They cannot arrest me.

If they lose my package, it really doesn't matter if it's locked or not.
From my experience you're better off filing a small claims suit for the loss then jumping through their hoops to get them to honor their insurance.
Just pack it like you expect someone who hates you to be handling it, and it will stay in the shape it needs to be to be legally shipped.
Canadapost with a signature is good proof of arrival and online signature, but tracking can prove delivery too without a sig.

Mark the box with "ground shipping only".
Even if it goes air, at least you tried to conform while it was in your control.

I would add...do NOT tell them it's a firearm!!!! I purchased a pistol that was delivered that read "Caution Firearm" written on all sides of it. Not the best idea!
