Shipping firearms by Canada Post

Also with Canada Post snap ship, there is no insurance option available, if you want insurance take your package to the Post office ( thats what they say on the website)

But if you do that you won't follow Canada Post new firearm shipping regulations.

.

It is the other way around. Snap ship provides insurance options which is not available at the PO.

Sorry but can't find it.

.

When you go through the details on Snap Ship and go to the last stage, there is a box that says liability on each level of shipping. Click on the box it will open up and you can type in how much you want to ensure the parcel for. Then it will recalculate and give you the value of which they're going to charge for that level of shipping. You can then hit continue and enter your credit card information.

Been there , Sadly it seems that this option is not available in my region.

It says that if i want more than $100, i have to bring my package to the Post Office, no other options available.

With Expresspost i only get $100 coverage.

Huh? That makes no sense at all. You got me then, as I live very rurally and have a small post office to drop off to. Not sure why they would say that your liability insurance is not available in your region. When I do it on my phone, that box is under regular, Express post, and expedited post so I'm not sure. Good luck though CP can be a real treat to deal with.

Here 's what it says :

'' Liability coverage up to a value of $100 is available with some services (such as Priority, Priority Worldwide, Xpresspost, Xpresspost USA & International, and Tracked Packet). If you need more coverage than this, you should instead take your package to a post office. ''

What it mean is that if you need more than a $100 insurance, don't use snap ship, bring your package to the Post Office like you did before, so in doing so you break their new rules for firearms shipping and if you firearms is lost then they won't pay you.

.

Yeah, that's pretty strange. Just did a package up on Snap ship this morning and one of the last checkboxes was liability on each one of the shipping levels for me. I clicked on liability and entered $1,500 and paid 38 bucks for it. Not sure friend like I say they can be a real treat sometimes.

Any update on this, do we use snap shipping or the old way is okay?

I have mailed a few since the announcement - and I did use SnapShip. No issues. And I have received a few - that clearly did not come through SnapShip. I had no issues to receive it - do not know what the sender put up with?? So appears to depend if the clerk that you run into at your Post Office has read the CP notice or not. Since I got started, I have sent several parcels that did not include firearm - used SnapShip - is just way more easy and convenient for me to print out label at home and done with it. We are out in boonies - so do not get to use the option to have CP come to house to pick it up - would be even further bonus, I guess - but I prefer to live where I am...

I don't think you are in the snap ship section, it is easy to miss that , when first entering the site, for me anyway.
You do have a business account I presume?

I checked it out and signed up for a business account, snap shipping lets me add the appropriate insurance - easier than doing it all the counter. Cheers.

Customers who wish to ship firearms must:
  1. unload the firearms
  2. attach a secure locking device to the firearms
  3. lock the firearms in a sturdy, non-transparent container, and
  4. remove the bolt or bolt carrier from any automatic firearms (if removable).

Consumer is also limited to regular parcel with signature, and consumer with business contract can use expedited service with proof of age option.

Firearms cannot be shipped via air and cannot have any markings on the outside of the packaging. The customer is solely responsible for meeting all Canadian Firearms Centre regulations.

This has me thinking. Bought a Rifle from a fellow canadian gun owner (i’m also in Canada) in the last week. It was shipped xpresspost. Seller did not know the regulation. Now i see that the package is stuck in « in transit » status since a couple days. We are 2 soon to be 3 days past the delivery guaranteed date. Pretty sure it was put on hold at the airport. Anybody had to deal with this before ?

Thanks

I shipped a box to ontario, from home, went to Regina , to Calgary, back to Regina ,I think , and after tea , it should be some where between the oceans. I never checked today to see.
Sent a box to B.C. 2 weeks ago, it arrived way faster than what the tracking said, so guess it missed the flood.
But in 50 or so yrs, they always have made it.

Update: i did receive a call from Canada Post. Rifle was found and it was on hold in the secured facility in Scarborough. Initially shipped xpressPost on december 29th. I should receive it by february 24th (hopefully).

Do you need the business account to ship firearms?
There appears to be a lot of confusion

Yes, appears to be confusion - CP rules pretty clear - yes, as per their rules, you must use SnapShip, which requires a SFSB account. So far this year, I have received more than one rifle that was NOT mailed that way - but made it to me, just fine, in spite of CP rules - one from small town New Brunswick; one from small town middle of Southern B.C. I was able to track them from the Post Office that accepted them, to the Post Office in town. The one from New Brunswick was 15 days from payment that I made, until I left feedback with the thing here. The one from B.C. took 8 days for same.

They most certainly do. Most of the ammo that gets shipped across country is done by UPS.

Just had ammo delivered, sort of. In my area it gets handed off to a another courier, and they in turn will not deliver to my address. So they offer a "drop off point", I did that with my last ammo shipment, went to pick it up and the business told me they will not accept parcels shipped to me any more as they are not a pick up spot. Further discussion with manager got no where. Confused I called UPS, which said they have people picking up there all the time, told the very nice UPS lady it was ammo, and she said send another one to test the waters because they cannot do that. So I can only assume the dude at the pharmasave with the UPS contract as a drop point is a KAREN. But yes UPS ships ammo.
