Shipping from Brownells

My most recent order from Brownells was submitted May 7 and received May 18. Two days of that was my delay is responding to an email from Sandra regarding export issues, once that was done she released the order and it shipped the same day May 10.

I specified PP - AIR and indicated "Please do not ship UPS, use USPS only" in the comments.

The product total was US$141.19 and the shipping charge was US$28.35. There was nothing larger or heavier than a loading block and the box weighed less than 1kg.

The CBSA Postal Import Form indicates "NOT OPENED", everything was categorized as "Firearms - parts and accessories" which is correct with the possible exception of the loading blocks which could also be "tools". Exchange rate was shown as 1.001900. Duty was C$0.00, HST (Ontario) was C$18.37 and the handling fee was C$8.50 for a total payable on delivery of C$26.87.

Getting what I need, when I need it, from people who have it and know exactly how to process & ship it: priceless.

Yup, you're right on Bob. Brownells are first-rate and have been for years. The fact that they offer various choices for shipping has all to do with purchasers' preferences, depending upon where they live in this world. As Canadians, ALWAYS choose USPS Priority Post and NEVER UPS.

I just ordered the APEX CAEK, and I did selected USPS Priority. The invoice was emailed back stating PP-Air? I emailed asking to use the least expensive shipping method and the shipping notice came back as NTFC and cost $5.75.

PP-Air is how they shipped my trigger pull gauge and that one cost me $20+ worth of shipping.

What gives?

I'll say this again, ignore those that say select Priority. That is the most expensive USPS option. What you want, and eventually received, is First Class International.

You can go to the USPS website and it has a pretty good shipping calculator to help you figure out the costs for the different choices, if you know the approx size, weight of the parcel.

I am disappointed with my first order from Brownells. I ordered some Novak sights for my 1911 and a $5 spring. They cancelled the sights and shipped the spring without asking me if I wanted to go ahead with the order anyway. I think the shipping amounted to $20 so I will be the proud owner of the World's Most Expensive Spring.

Next time I'm going to write "Cancel order if any items are not exportable" in the comment field.

Anybody know where to get something resembling Novak Colt LoMount 02 sights?

Ordering by phone will eliminate any confusion. They'll tell you right away if an item is exportable or not and you can tell them you want the cheapest shipping, which isn't Priority, by the way. First Class International is the cheapest option and is less than $6 for a package under 1kg.

Couple of mags and some small 1911 parts, ordered online on May 11, shipped the same day, received May 22. $5.75 shipping and customs didn't even look at the package.

Call in your order if you're not sure about shipping options or export restrictions, they're great to deal with.
