Shipping Handguns by Mail: One More Time

When you transport it to the post office, you still need to follow the usual laws. So, it would be illegal for you to wrap up an unlocked pistol in an unlocked box, and drive it to the post office.

My wife is a lawyer, and that is her professional opinion on the matter. She's defended two people who were charged for transporting firearms not in accordance with the regulations.

Anyway, why take chances just for the sake of a few bucks? The last thing we need is for an unlocked pistol to be stolen out of the mail system and used in a crime. Not only would it be tragic in its own right, but the Libs would have a field day with it.

Yes, that is the way I understand it. Otherwise what is stopping someone from just keeping a handgun unlocked in a car trunk and just using the excuse "well I am taking it to the post office"? Would be a big hole in the law.

But I do think you would be OK at the same time if Canada Post (or other legal shipping company) came to you house and picked it up (boxed and ready to go). Not sure if Canada Post still does that but in remote areas I wouldn't doubt it. And from businesses that do a lot of shipping this would be the case.
