Has anyone shipped thier pistol to the States for warrenty or repair work? Im thinking about sending my X5 back to SIG but am kinda reluctent do the permit/border issues.

Ive heard tell that the Feds down there will confiscate it when it comes to customs..Best bet is to do WAY more research.

Not a Sig but I had an issue with a S&W revolver that required shipping down to the USA. The Canadian warranty centre determined that the poor finish of the revolver could not be buffed out and probably was related to poor casting or forging (whatever process they use). This would've required shipping to the factory in the US for the factory to assess. The Canadian warranty centre was going to handle all the necessary paper work but the estimate was that it would be at least 8 months before I would see the revolver or a replacement come back to Canada. There was nothing else wrong with the revolver other than a freckled/pitted surface on the underlug and frame so I opted not to lose the use of the gun for the "minimum of 8 months". Is there a Canadian Sig warranty centre? I'd like to think they would offer the same type of service.......

Hey RT, what X5 do you have and what issue are you having with it?
I have a 226X5-40-L1 (.40S&W) stainless and absolutely love it. Had the fore aft trigger adjustment loosen off one time, just had to tighten the allen screw.

No real Canadian SIG warrenty Center. Ive called SIG in the states a couple times, and since its an German X-5 they dont seem real keen on dealing with it! Its not likely Ill send it to them, but Im just curious what others have experienced with this issue?

Allround 9mm.
Ive got around 5000rnds or so through it now and for the last 1000rnds or so, it seems to throw the occasional shot ( yes Ive tried several types of ammo, removed all the copper from the barrel, ensured the crown isnt damaged, had a couple other people bench it ect.ect) and after discussing it with SIG and Gray Guns, they figure its having an occasional lock-up issue! Probly just needs a spring buffer but it seems no in North America has any parts for an X-5.

Questar should be able to give you an estimate (not including the repair time) of how long the whole process will take.
In the next breath, let me say that I have a buddy that purchased 4 pieces (3 of them restricted) from the states in May 2008 and is still waiting for all the paperwork to come through. He is attempting this transaction without the help of any importing, exporting company like Questar.
