As of May 27 2021 Canpar is no longer accepting shipments of Powder, Primers or ammunition.

I will research and find another method.

Over the past year I have managed to ship a bunch of powder, and ammunition.

I know a lot of people are afraid to ship powder, primers or ammunition.

What I have found is that it is quite easy. As easy as printing your own shipping label. Just like Canada post.

Here is what i do:

If first time check to see where your local drop off depot for Canpar is. If rural this may be a drug store or another shipping company.

Package you items properly. Get your box size and weight. I always separate into different packages, powder gets its own. Ammunition and primers can go together. The local depot here said to do that. I wasn't going to argue.

I use a 3rd party shipping agent or website. Ship time is a good one. Plus if you are a Costco member you save by signing up with your number.

Once you have created an account you enter your shipping info. The usual Length, Width, Height, weight and insured value. Plus signature required if you want.

Next page you will get a list of the available shipping companies. The usual are UPS, Loomis, Canpar and a few others.

Select Canpar ground. MUST be GROUND.

Reason being is that bulk Smokeless powder is UN0161 1.3C.
Which cannot be legally shipped by air as per IATA.
Neither can ammunition except in a few certain cases.

Always check the MSDS if unsure of the class.

Cannot ship anything other than:
1.3C Powder, Smokeless UN0161
1.4S Cartridges, small arms. UN0012
1.4S Primers, Cap type UN0044
I think the limit is under 50 KG.

Do not ship black powder. That requires a different shipping all together which I will not cover here.

There is no need to write anything on the box. No LTD QTY or anything unless you are shipping a large amount. Which would probably be easier in a couple shipments. Multiple shipments on the same order to the same address is actually way cheaper than individual.

I have never received a package from Canpar with anything written on it from suppliers before.

There is ZERO extra cost for shipping Powder, Primers or Ammunition with Canpar that is why I always call BS on DG fees from businesses.

Check over your info. Make sure it's Canpar GROUND. Pay for your order. Print your label. Go for a drive.

There is also a way to schedule a pickup also. But that is another posting.

Shipping powder and ammunition is quite easy. Probably less cost than CP if you use the 3rd party shipper.

Case in point,. 2 boxes. One with 2-8lb packs of powder. Another with 1000 BMG primers and 4 boxes of factory ammo plus some primed cases. So 2 boxes 40lbs from BC to ONT was $48.

You can also email shipping labels to a seller if they are worried about shipping it themselves. Then you can prepay and have it picked up also... No haggling over shipping.

I hope this helps.

I must of missed this thread when it was posted. Good info. I've honestly avoided looking at powder from private sellers due to the reported costs of shipping it. Never looked into it myself

Sure has helped Ruger007, I just printed my first Ship Time/ Canpar label. Piece of cake and quite economical with my Costco membership. This is what all of us Gunnutz have been waiting for!
