Shipping powder

At the same time I know 2 online retailers that ships Canada post... One of them is. In. London.... Even asked them and they said it actually is allowed
 
In fact just yesterday I recieved 2 lbs from London Ontario was sitting in the parcel compartment on tlmy community mail box
 
I've ordered powder only option for shipping was Courier...... Guess what. Canada Post Delivered it. Lol Just a money grab...
 
Was reading what can and can't be shipped.. Depending how you interpret it I can either be ok or not.. Sounds familiar... And having 2 family members who are posties they tell me it's illegal to ship guns via Canada post.. But they are wrong of course
 
It looks to me that we are not supposed to ship powder or ammo with Canada Post, it also seems that it's being done quite often... what would the penalties be if you were to get caught?

I have used Loomis/DHL
There is a hazmat fee that you have to pay.
I get a really good deal through our shop and I think I only paid $40.00 including hazmat. And that was for 3 boxes 32 pouns of gun powder and 6 or 7000 primers.
That's from Ontario to Manitoba.
 
When you ship a parcel by CP IIRC you sign a declaration it doesn't contain hazardous things.

Dangerous substances

51 Except under and in accordance with the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, 1992, every person commits an offence who encloses in or with any mailable matter transmitted by post, or puts into any post office, any explosive, dangerous or destructive substance or any thing likely to injure persons or damage property.

R.S., 1985, c. C-10, s. 51; 1993, c. 34, s. 17.

Punishment

60 Every person who contravenes any provision of this Act or the regulations or who commits an offence under any of sections 48 to 59

(a) is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years; or

(b) is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction.
 
You actually need a special license to carry dangerous substances (flammable, explosive, biological, nuclear...) . The only 2 options practical for the average guy in Canada are UPS and CanPar. There's a bunch of other requirements that need to be followed (the substance needs to be identified with the right pictogram and level, on every "container", paperwork must be filled, etc...). The thruth is, even totally legit retailers usually don't completely follow the rules on shipping hazardous materials, mostly because neither them nor UPS/CanPar knows them fully well. So far out of 6 internet retailers I bought primers, powder or ammos from, only 1 had it right.

Contact UPS or Canpar and they'll tell you what they need, then after they give you a quote you can do like everyone else and decide that paying 10$ in shipping for every 1$ worth of substance isn't worth it :)

Well the Powder was Shipped courer..... Then handed off to Canada Post for delivery.... I guess CP would have to charge FED X....
Doesnt CP own them...
