Hi guys :) been reading how tough it is to export a scope or optics from the US to Canada or any other country because of some of the new regulations, I know someone who has a new Elcan Specter Dr that he was thinking of selling on ebay, what if someone from the US bought it , would there be a problem shipping it into the US from Canada .......

I have a friend that sent his scope to a location in Florida for repairs and after six months it came back repaired, he also bought a scope off ebay without any problems shipped to Ontario within 2 weeks. But you may hear from others with bad experiences.

In theory the "controlled Goods Directorate" would likely get involved and export licenses are required, the way to do this legally is spread out through various Government websites but this http://www.international.gc.ca/eicb/general/Bluebook/TableOfContents-en.asp should be a good place to start as it'll help you figure out what kind of export permit you may require. Then you have to do the same thing on the U.S. side of things and find out what kind of Import permit you may require.

A lot retailers in the US are ignoring that export requirement. The Department of commerce I guess can't over see the thousands of retails and ebay and effectively enforce the stupid regulation.

People are getting caught, and scopes are being seized before the leave the U.S..............don't kid yourself........

Two very large retailers were caught shipping controlled items out of the U.S. without the proper permits and received quite hefty fines.............they no longer ship to Canada because of that instance...............

Both these instances are violations of U.S. Export regulations................If you own a scope and it has to be sent to the U.S. for repairs, you are still required to have a U.S. Export permit to have that sent back to Canada...................

And yes, some of the U.S. Regulations are pretty stupid, but that is out of our hands................
