Saw an add today on a local classified site . Guy had a swiss rifle chambered in 7.5x55 . Said it has a 14 shot detachable mag ?? Anyone ever seen anything like this ? If so what model is it and what is a fair price to offer ?

Thats what i was thinking it was to . I asked buddy and he swears it takes 14 rounds and shoots the gp 11 . I just wanted to confirm what i thought . He is asking 700 with a sporterized stock . Really high i thought

Yeah he doesn't have a clue what he is talking about. There is only one rifle which could possibly be safe to shoot GP-11 with and have a 12rd capacity and that is the G1889/96. That being said virtually all were converted to the G96/11 standard and I highly doubt he has a sporterized one.

Odds are it is a sporterized 1889 (very common) with the 12rd magazine. It wouldn't be safe for GP-11, and sporterized there isn't much of a market, maybe 100$ or 200$. A quick way to tell is if the bolt has locking lugs at the front of the collar or the rear of the collar on the bolt.

No Swiss rifle with a mag larger than ten rounds capacity fires GP11
M1889 mag is 12 rounds and fires the weaker GP90 7.5x53.5 round, do not fire Gp11 in it.
96,96/11,1911, K11 and K31 use 6 round mags.
Vetterli has 12 round tube magazine and fire 10.4 round.

The 96 was a 12rd magazine, though it was intended for the GP 90 pressures. That being said since it was safely converted to fire GP 11 ammo with the 96/11 conversion, it is reasonable to say it should be safe to shoot through a unaltered 96. Odds of it being a 96 is extremely low though, and if it was I still wouldn't fire GP 11 though it simply due to both rarity, and the fact the sights wouldn't be regulated for it.
