Ontario rifle owners are invited to an ORA sponsored shooting event at Camp Borden (Barrie area - just north of Alliston.)

A fun course of fire at 100, 200 and 300 yards, featuring Deliberate, Snap and Moving target at each distance.

$25 for ORA members and $45 for non-members. For non-members the $45 is an installment payment towards full membership.

Vimy or Mons Range at 8:00 am. Pack a lunch or Soup and Sandwich at Tim’s. Hope to finish around 3:00.

• June 11 (June 25 date cancelled)
• July 24

Bring out a rifle or two and do some shooting. Remember that we shoot most of the 100 yard stage from the standing position, so a 20X target scope would not be a good choice.

As usual, we will have a fine selection of $6 wine as prizes….

We will start at 100 yards and then move back. This is a course of fire that allows us to zero the rifles at each distance and then shoot from various positions.

N.B. Prone shooting can use a rest, so long as the rifle rests on a hand, with the back of the hand on the rest. (I rest my hand on an ammo can.)

100 yardsDeliberate from the prone position on the 4 foot target. 5 sighting shots for zero, and then 10 shots on score. We shoot this from the prone position so you can get a good zero for the rest of the day.

10 shots standing Snap. 5 exposures of 10 seconds each. 2 sighting shots.

10 shots standing at Moving target. One sighter in each direction. (Our experience is that the target does not require any lead at 100 yards to hit it.)

200 yards (all shooting from prone position)

Deliberate on the 4 foot target. 5 sighting shots for zero, and then 10 shots on score.

10 shots prone Snap. 10 exposures of 3 seconds each. 2 sighting shots.

10 shots prone at Moving target. One sighter in each direction. (Our experience is that the target requires about 6” lead to hit it.)

300 yards (all shooting from prone position)

Deliberate on the 4 foot target. 5 sighting shots for zero, and then 10 shots on score.

10 shots prone Snap. 10 exposures of 3 seconds each. 2 sighting shots.

10 shots prone at Moving target. One sighter in each direction. (Our experience is that the target requires about 12” lead to hit it.)

Ammo required 110 minimum

Note: This is a lot of shooting. You do not have to use the same rifle at each distance or for all stages. You could, for example, shoot a different rifle for each distance. For the Snap, there is plenty of time to re-load the rifle between exposures. I have shot it with a single shot rifle.

Note: Shooters will be assigned 2 per target lane. One will shoot all 3 matches at that distance while the other markers are in the butts to mark and keep score. After shooting the shooter will go to the butts to inspect his targets, confirm the score values and to take over marking duties while one marker comes out of the butts to shoot. After all shooters have had their turn shooting, we will move back to the next distance and repeat the procedure.

Please don’t let the program intimidate you. The Range Officer will explain each step as we progress through the program. Just make sure you bring a rifle(s), enough matching ammo and ear protection.

Please PM me if you plan on joining us. Please bring a son, daughter, wife or buddy.

I am in for sure - I am a noob that just got my PAL and I have an SKS that I have not fired yet. I am still looking for a reasonable range and sponsor for membership, so until I join one, I will participate in any chance to shoot it. So I will suck, and not be a contender, but it's how we learn right. Plus a chance to be around other shooters and rifles for a fun day shooting.

The first time I shot my SKS past 100m was at one of these a few years back. I didnt place but what a blast! Come and shoot just for the fun of it, you never know how you'll do :D Many experienced shooters will be there and will be more then happy to help you out.

Oh, and I'll be there with the old man. The trouble now is finding enough brass to reload!

I am going to make the first date a 223 day. bringing a new shooter who will shoot my M4gery. I will shoot my Norc BushRanger - a bolt rifle. With no rapid fire in the event, it should do ok.

On the second date I will shoot my Norc BushRanger in 7.62x39 and my buddy can try my SKS.

I am trying for a third date on the Canada Day long weekend. Stay tuned.

Me and my brother would love to come and see Borden for the first time. This sounds like a really friendly event to do some serious learning as we've never been able to shoot outdoors before.

I have a 16" AR and my brother only has a .223 BA, would that work?

Yes, those will work fine. You basically just need a rifle that will toss a bullet 300 yards. That is actually considered by some to be short distance for centre fire rifles.

It is absolutely a friendly and fun event. This is what introduced me to the ORA a couple of summers ago and I haven't looked back since.

Darn it, I have to take my son to a birthday party that day, I will have to pass on this June 11th shoot, but I am certainly in for the July 24th event though.

Thanks for the notice.
