Shoot that Rifle!! June 11 now

So far I am planning to attend and bring a buddy. (Buddy's become rare when it gets down to the grit of actually leaving your family for a whole day of shooting it seems.)

I just got my POSP mounted on my SKS. It's my cheap, "HST and hydro price hike ain't gonna get me to stop shooting" boomstick.:p

Thank the lord, I was informed of a wedding inviation for June 25th so my heart sank in regard to the range shoot but now I am happy it has been re-scheduled. Count me in!

Just got my pal and live in Alliston. Been thinking on a range to join. A few choices in the area. This would be a great way to see the range at CFB and have some fun. Likely see you on the july event. Thanks.

Does anyone have a good route handy to reach CFB Borden from Toronto ?

400 north to Dunlop St exit in Barrie. Left turn on Dunlop (westbound) proceed west. It becomes hwy 90, follow west to the town of Angus. Watch for the base entrance and follow right on to Cambrai road and stop at gate house. State your business to commisionaire on duty i.e "ORA at Vimy range". Proceed at the speed limit (mps will tag you for speeding) and turn right at Falaise road. Follow Falaise to Range road. Once past range control building watch for the range signs. Each range has a large sign with it's name on it.

If you have a GPS, enter these coordinates: 44deg 16min 33sec N and 79deg 55min 26sec W and it'll navigate you right to Vimy range. If you don't have a GPS, enter the coordinates into Google Earth. Click the directions tab, enter your home address in the "From" and the Vimy coordinates in the "To" window (44 16' 33"N, 79 55' 26"W). Then print the directions. Note that you can only enter CFB Borden by the north gate, CR10 from Angus, or the south gate, CR15 from Alliston. The west gate at Lisle is always closed.

I just finished packing up all my supplies and I decided what is coming along. I'm bringing these three beauties out on Saturday, what is everyone else planning on taking out ?

Oh, are cameras with video allowed ?

Was an awesome day, rain held off and we actually had pretty decent weather. Met some pretty cool guys and shot some pretty good groups.

Thanks to all who helped out, I hope to make it to the next match.

Pics from Ganderites email. If anybody wants their pic removed let me know.

Yeah it was definitely a great day for shooting. I met some great folks and some fellow cgners who know their stuff when they shoot.

Special thanks to John for being the most disciplined RSO I have ever bumped into at a range. He didn't shoot a single shot and stayed with us the whole day directing the relays and sighters.

Thanks John!

Also, thank you to everyone who worked hard to make this day possible.

We ran three relays of shooters, so that with one shooting and one marking there was one extra to either help with the marking or to stay with a newbie shooter. If we ran more targets and used two relays the day would go faster, but there would be no coach for the newbie - unless the coach did not shoot.

One good idea that has been suggested is to use a white grease pencil to label the target ring values so everyone knows how to score the targets.

This is an intersting and fun shooting program that can be run on a military range. I suggest that the various provinicial rifle associations consider it as a shoot to offer when trying to cater to new shooters or experienced shooters who are not association members. By taking the rapid fire out of the program, any rifle can now be used. We had a Remington Rolling block in this shoot. There is plenty of time between snap and mover exposures to single load a rifle.

Those of us who shoot target rifle think of 300 as close range and never shoot 100 or 200. This program is demanding and fun at 100 to 300 and is excellent practice for hunters and service rifle type shooters. It is the only opportnity many have to shoot 300 yards and most have never been able to try shooting at a moving target before.

Some shooters were not only shocked that they could shoot a decent group at 300 yards, but even more shocked whan they found the could relably hit a moving target at 300.

Next shoot is Sunday, 24 July. Be there! For more info, please pm me your name and email address.

Wow so those of us who wanted in, confirmed personally via email, and then when the date was changed no one emailed us back? Thanks, needless to say I missed out on June 11th. Also wont be able to make July 24th. Was really looking forward to it...
