I attended an ORA meeting today, and the President of the Ontario Swiss Rifle Club mentioned that non-Swiss were welcome to shoot with them.

For those that have never had the pleasure, the Swiss shoots are well organized (as one might expect).

For about $50 you get a day of shooting, ammo for your K31, a great lunch (BBQ right on the range) and your entry fee.

If you want to shoot your K31 with others, the Swiss Club cannot be beat. Check the ORA website in the Spring for the shoot dates. They will have about a dozen shoots scheduled.

Swiss Clubs are the best clubs. Most clubs will allow non-Swiss members, but there is a ratio of Swiss to non-Swiss that they will adhere to. Best way to get into one is to befriend a Swiss member, attend a lot of shoots, and volunteer for the work parties.

Or, be Swiss.

OK, just checked the NCRRA site and they do have a Swiss Rifle Club but it states that membership is restricted to Swiss nationals and their families. Does anyone know if they accept non-Swiss shooters as the ORA Swiss guys (SRCT) seem to be doing?

Wait for Carlos Diopter to respond here. True, he lives in Quebec, but AFAIAC he is THE man when it comes to answering queries on the Swiss shooting world. Neither he nor I are Swiss, and we shoot the heck out of OUR Swiss rifles.

There is one in Ottawa.
They can only use D range, Connaught, on Wednesday afternoons, when it's not cancel on them by DND. Sometimes they might be forced to use A range if that's all that is available.

Non-Swiss members can be allowed, but each Swiss club cannot have too high a ratio of non-Swiss. They risk losing their sanction from the Swiss military if they do.
If you are willing to help out and not just complain all the time about how you think things should be done, hint, hint, and follow their rules, you will be welcomed. Ammo is bought for the matches. Don't expect to get all the GP11 you want. Reloads are not allowed for the matches, Swiss military rules again. K31s should be as pretty much as issued by the Swiss military. Diopter sights are allowed, if not downright encouraged, but not any form of scoped optics, beside spotting scopes.
I use my scope(s) to verify the tuning of the action screws and shoot the matches with diopters.

I hate this guy.

does it have to be a k31 or can we use older swiss rifles in the same caliber?

Better off with a K31 because you can use either the W&F Swiss diopters or Swiss products diopter easily on them, but not on the older rifles.
Might do OK with the Military scoring targets(A5 round target and B4 silhouette) but will be pushing the limits on the newer shoots with the ISSF 10 scoring rings.

Some old timers have tapped holes for Anschütz rails and sights on their 96/11 and 1911 rifles and do quite well, but rare to see these days. These are allowed by the rules for those rifles. Main front sight would need to be changed also to Anschutz style front sight hood.
