Shooters Arms 1911

In the $800 range the Spartans are hard to beat....Armscor make a decent slide/frame/barrel, and the STI small parts and tuning make it a nice shooting gun out of the box. They only have 2 models to choose from though.
The SAM's start at $450, have some nice offerings in the $500-$650 range, and the Thunderbolt in the $700-$800 range is a little more tricked out then the Spartan.
For the price SAM is a great place to start especially if you are 1911 savvy to begin with, as there are a few tweaks and tuning that will make them great shooters. For out of the box ready, STI takes the gold.
 
Does anyone know if the 9mm works with flat nose bullets? I know that you can only use round nose in STIs.

At some point,when fund's permit,consider a STI RangeMaster in 9mm...This is the most accurate 9mm I have shot to date.I am more accurate with it then my CZ Shadow...
 
My Omega 6 has run great from day one. Tripp mags work great. I found that it shoots tighter groups with a GI guide rod for some reason. Very happy with it. I will confirm that TC profile bullets are a bit of a pain. I treat it as an opportunity to work on stoppage drills.
 
I have a SAM military enhanced in .45. The only issues i've had happened after about 600rds downrange at my Black badge course it started to gum up and the slide wouldn't go into battery. I should note I was using reloads with lead 230gn rn which apparently runs dirtier than factory. A good clean and lube fixed the issue. The only mod I have made so far are the grips. For $425 used in brand new condition I'm very happy with it.

They are made to pretty tight tolerances, and everything is hand fit in the Philippines. Any aftermarket parts will be quite a bit oversized and require fitting.
Not much will ever drop in on any 1911 and require some fitting. SAM'S tend to be tight and need more fitting still.
