With having a mauser that has been converted to 257 roberts is it safe to shoot the +P shells or do you have to have Gunsmith look at it first .
I have a custom 33/40 with a douglas barrel .. and when I bought it it came with some factory shells .. Three boxes of remington 117 grain and a box of 117 grain Hornady +P .
I have shot the remingtons out of it and it shots very well .. I have not tried the hornady
From what I can gather off the remington site and the hornady site .. the +p hornady is about 350 feet faster than the remington load .. There is no data for pressure

I believe all factory ammo will be within SAAMI specs, in other words it should be fine for the weakest action out there,
Your 33/40 should be fine. You may be disappointed with the +P ammo, it is fast but not necessarily accurate,

Some times I do not explain myself correctly or very well LOL . I am not afraid to shoot the remington stuff as I know it is loaded too lower specs..
But what I was holding back on was the +p stuff as I know it is OK in the newer guns..

I am more than happy with the accuracy with the remington loads .. not sure if it has to do with the douglas barrel .. or if I just got lucky and got a real shooter ...
I do plan to do some reloading for this gun but have no intention of loading it too the limits anyway as accuracy is my goal .
But it would be nice to know if I could go up a bit higher than the factory remington stuff ,,

This is in that custom G33/40 of yours?

I would have no problems shooting +P ammo through that action. The G33/40 actions have been used to build all sorts of fine custom rifles chambered in all sorts of cartridges. It's a 98 style action made with high quality steels.

Thanks .. I love that 33/40 ..257 .. rifle and think it was built for me instead of who ever had it built ..
When it came up for sale there was a m38 6.5 x55 also for sale . It also shoots good also
I bought both .. But I think the 6.5 is going to find a new home as I like the 257 better .. It just fits me better .
And I did not want to shoot the +p shells and hurt my baby LOL
