shooting 458 win mag in 458 Lott

What's your load for blowing out the 300 brass? I have a bunch and was thinking about blowing it out and trimming it down for 458 wm

I use 14 grains of Unique, a case full of no name cream-of- wheat and plug the end with whatever the cheapest bar soap at the grocery store was that day. You could use them for wing shooting grasshoppers at the range if you don't mind people thinking you're crazy.

Same technique makes 375 H&H into 458 Lott.

You can work that in your favor. People tend to back off and leave the crazy guy alone.

Jack Lott designed the 458 Lott to use 458 Win mag as a backup in case he ran out of 458 Lott in Africa. He reported no loss of accuracy and very little loss of velocity in his tests.

BB......I have experienced the same syndrome at the range............"what kinda bullets you shooting in that 410 Mr." (my 470 NE) and the silliest of all, of course "boy that thing must blow animals to pieces"............to which I reply "Yep"..............

I've thought about opening my 458 to the Lott as I do plan to hunt Africa but I think I can do with a 450/480 gr class bullet over a 500 and be Ok for buffalo. I figured if I needed more than my 458wm I'd go 460wby but then I'm not sure about case extraction in the heat

You can use a 450 grain bullet and be more than just OK for Buffalo. A2230 is your friend. Even so, maximizing the Win Mag is a struggle with case capacity.
