Shooting 8mm Mauser at heavy steel.

How about the little reactive targets made of steel for .22's and handguns? Has anyone had a ricochet from one of these?

Not quite the same small little targets you're talking about, but I have seen .22 LR ricochets from steel plates of various sizes.

A few years back I was shooting a speed steel match in the States with .22 LR pistols.

I was shooting a borrowed Browning Buckmark 5.5 Target loaded with 40 gr. CRN (Copper Round Nose) CCI Mini-Mags.

We walked around the IPSC range as a group and took turns at each bay.

Every time someone shot, we all bunched together behind the shooter to avoid getting hit by ricochets. We would hear the odd mangled round whine past us as we doing all we could to not be a target.

On one of my turns shooting, a ricochet clipped the cheek of the Range Officer, who was standing on my right and slightly behind me. It gave him a pretty good cut.

He took it with good humour and said they carried suture kits when they shot speed steel with .45's.

I still felt like a #### though, especially since it was his wife's pistol that I was borrowing.
