Shooting an airgun in Nova Scotia not hunting not at range or municipality

I have seen some very effective big bore air guns(40+ cal if I recall) taking pigs in Texas and the thought of casting a 40 cal pellet and firing it effectively against a pig or a white tail with nothing but air applealing to my boy scout motto..be prepared.

You're only permitted in NS to buy/sell/keep an air gun for the strictly intended purpose of firing it on an approved firing range..

You are not allowed on crown land with one since it is not on the approved list of firearms for hunting and since we are not allowed to target shoot on crown land it is a no go for both activities.
In fact many towns have by laws that you cannot even own one. HRM was like that for years but changed it in 2007 I think.
Double check with the DNR since it has been maybe 5 years or so since I asked but would be suprised if they revised it..
It sucks and stupid for sure

This is why I hate my province. I often find myself thinking I some how woke up in Nazi Germany, then realizing I didn't.

^I might look into the Nuisance Wildlife Operator thing IF I stay in this area. If not then I probably won't bother with it, - you have to: 'keep detailed logs' (for which nobody at DNR will compensate you). Sounds like you are providing them with a case against you in case the mossbacks at DNR need someone to charge. :jerkit:

It is not the place to live if you like to hunt and shoot that is for sure. Many guys will say BS I get my deer every year etc etc and I say spend some time out west hunting and shooting and then come back and tell me what a great spot we have. NOT
It could be a good area if they would change a few simple laws like allow sunday hunting and spring bear hunts and manage what wildlife we do have and maybe even introduce some others like turkey for example.
If I was in good health and 40 or less I would not be here that is for sure.

NovaScotia sucks. I have some real nice airguns that I leave home when I go for a walk in the woods, but I always take a sub 500fps air pistol or rifle and still have lots of fun with them. sub 500 fps outside of town limits is non regulated or at least I cant find any.
