I'm a newbie. I recently joined a new indoor handgun club. I have had two range visits so far. Surprisingly not many members shooting each time I've visited so far. Anyhow, I take 100 rounds and different circle size (8", 4", 2") target sheets and start sending rounds downrange. Even tried the 'Dot Torture' on my last visit. That was hard. I'm keeping targets close as I gain proficiency. Not into distance shots just yet. Just getting use to my new for me CZ Shadow. Really enjoying it so far. Curious as to what others do.

When I go.I am usually in a bad mood, thus the need to blast away. So I always keep lots of,mags around pre-loaded, i.e Glock 22 (20) Walther P38 (30) as I hate reloading.

Sounds like you are starting out ok. Start out 7-10 meters. slow fire. aim each shot carefully and press the trigger slowly. the trigger should break and the shot be fired almost as a surprise. many go to the range to blast away and as long as they are on their own target that is fine. you will have to let loose every once and a while but work up to speed with accuracy instead of speed or accuracy. have fun, be safe, and good luck.! remember the sights are likely set for 25 or 50 meters. My sig is. so it may shoot a bit low (closer than what it is sighted for).

I usually go to the range once a month with my work buddies. We hit the indoor range first to shoot the pistols. The bays are not full, but I am happy to see the club house to be with ppl chatting.

I normally just load 5 rounds in the magazine. I aim to ensure I have the correct grip and stance. I worked on my trigger control and eliminating my demons by chambering a round, remove the magazine, pull the trigger, release until I feel/hear the reset and pull the trigger again. I try not to dip the nozzle down when pulling the trigger.

Is also try to tame the glock 22 as I usually hit to the left and I compensate by aiming slightly to the right of the target. Also, my first cold shots are usually low, so I aim to correct that.

Right after lunch, rifles gets its turn and we shoot outside at 25m and 100m.

Great way to do therapy. By the time I am done, I get a dose of fresh air, shoot the sh$t with my friends and ppl that we meet at the range and go home with a smile.

30 days later, rinse and repeat.

Really...I go to improve my proficiency. I can think of much better ways to blow off steam.

dm9 I think you're going about it the right way. I'd start by learning proper technique at home (lots of good videos on youtube) or take a class. When you know about the basics then you can practice your technique. Shooting live ammo is fun, but you can work on the basics without shooting at all. Get some snap caps or do the o-ring trick to safely dry fire your CZ. If you mount a lazer on your CZ you can practice trigger control and see your results without wasting a bunch of ammo.

Have fun!

Yes, I find at short distances the sight picture needs to be #3

I take a maglula UpLULA mag loader with me. Makes reloading the mags easy and quick. Only problem is that means the 100 rounds I take don't last long.

All good points. I have watched some great videos on proper semi-auto pistol grip technique. Especially positioning of the support hand, locked wrist, forward thumb. I always get snap caps for all my firearms and dry-fire practice at home.

I try different things, accuracy work, sometimes speed, different drills, talk to people, disturb the peace for several blocks around, piss off guys trying to show off for their lady friends, be a bad influence.
Various combinations of the foregoing, depends on the day.
