I was looking at the Armageddon Gear Game Changer with the straps but it doesn't have the tacky surface.

Conversely, the Sticky Game Changer doesn't have straps. They're both available from a site sponsor.

Is there a adhesive backed material that I could apply to the bag? Or maybe a spray on coating? Last resort would be to try and sew something on since I can't sew for ####.

Cheers

Don’t worry about the straps. You will need to move that bag around. If you practice enough, the movement will be quick. I have the Sticky Game Changer and the Shmedium. For weird slopes the sticky can not be beat. The Shmedium is more solid though. I’ve used one or the other more than 5K times this year.

I see guys using the strap for centerfire prs, is it a different story for rimfire because of the general finickyness of the caliber?

What about the Wiebad DRC Fortune Cookie as an alternative to the Shmedium Gamechanger?

For me, the straps or a fore end plate that the bag is attached to only work when the match director designs stages to be gamed by gear, rather than the shooter’s experience and skill. The rifle also gets stupid heavy with a bag attached. Like tripods, as soon as deployment on the clock and some non standard transitions are added, they become much less helpful. As far as other bags, most of them can be used by most shooters would be my guess. I find that practice moving and manipulating the bag, especially in concert with the rest and fore end to quickly build a consistent position that doesn’t move when the shot breaks is more important that what bag it is. It’s a procedure with 6-8 steps each time I move to another position. Big heavy bags are more stable, but less flexible. Imagine a stage with a prone position first, then a sideways sloped 2x4, then a flat top, then a prone position. 3 targets from each position. They could all be at any range you want with various sizes, or use range difference to challenge the real overachievers. You want the rear bag option in the prone, where a Shmedium size bag might a bit hard to manage fast. It would work best on the top though. It’s the thousands of practice position builds that make the most difference.

I have shot PRS for 3-4 years now and never used one with the straps. It is much easier ON MOST stages to keep the bag and rifle separate. The odd situation where having one attached to the rifle are stages like a cattle gate where there are 4-5 positions on the rungs that need to be shot within 90-120 seconds. That's where having one attached to the gun can be easier. Nowadays, there are solutions to this as well. Companies such as Grayops and Area419 have plates that you can attach a bag to so that you don't have straps going over the barrel or scope.

Shooting bags come down to personal preference. If I were you, I'd try to shoot a match before you buy gear and see what you like or what gets used the most. 99% of the guys you're shooting with will have different bags that they will be more than willing to let you try out.

That basically sums it up. Needing to attach your support bag to your rifle is a pretty niche thing, which when needed, is usually better accomplished by having a "gamer plate" that you can attach your bag to. You can get Gamechangers that are designed to attach to both the Area 419 and Gray Ops plates (that function as regular bags without the plates). Personally, I find the "sticky" bags to be too sticky for most shooting, albeit they are unbeatable for shooting off something that is heavily sloped. I use a Pint-Size heavy fill Gamechanger for almost everything and carry around a light fill sticky Pint Size for that one stage a match that it's useful for...

I ended up going with the Wiebad Mini Fortune Cookie.

Watching guys use strapped bags at NRS matches for stages with ladders or gates with multiple levels makes me think it's still a good idea. If you save a few seconds on each transition then it's worth it, especially for someone like me who needs every second. Maybe I'll get my feet wet in the sewing world and add a strap to the Fortune Cookie.

I've been using the bigger bag in this picture as both a front and rear bag. It works okay as a front bag but it's not great on ladders, tank traps etc. Bonus points if you can tell me make and model of these because I can't for the life of me remember.
