While I use a Protektor 'bunny ear' for F-Class I've stuck with the old standby of a sand-filled bag for all my other shooting.
Now there is nothing wrong with the old sandbag and it is cheap ( part of an old jean leg sewn to make a bag, filled with sand and sewn at other end ) but recently I acquired from fellow CGN member Skullboy a really neat set of purpose made bags that are manufactured by a company here in the Lower Mainland called J.S.A.T. that apparently makes cammo clothing as well. Since this company and these bags were new to me I thought I'd share my thoughts with you.
As you can see in the above picture the bags come in three sizes ( approx L 9"x5"; M 6"x31/4" and S 41/2"x 31/4" ) and are made from 1000 Cordura nylon which seems some pretty heavy duty material, each bag also has mil-spec nylon carry handles on the top and sides and Molle straps. While I've not taken one apart to check, the bags seem to be filled with some kind of tiny plastic beads.
I've used these bags on each of the last three range trips and I've found them to be more than up to the task. I really like the fact that they come in different sizes as some rifle stocks simply don't need a large bag like my old sand-filled home made bag. I wasn't too sure the little plastic beads would give me the support that sand has given but so far I've had no problem.
The bags retail for $30, 40 and 50 for the S,M and L size and come in a whole bunch of different cammo patterns as well as some solid colours.
Overall, I'm pretty impressed with these bags and I'm happy to see another small Canadian company making products for shooter so while I'm going to stick to my Protektor for F Class, I'm retiring the old sandbag and using these bags for all my other rifle shooting.
