I am working on building a shooting platform on my farm so that I can get some more elevation to shoot out to 1000 yards. I am thinking a 12' wide 8'deep and 4 or 5' off the ground. The plan would be to have a shooting bench on one end and two more spots for shooting prone. So each prone shooter would have 4' wide by 8 feet long. My question for you guys is if you think that this is a enough room for each prone shooter.
Next question is dose any one have something similar to this already build for them selves and whats to show off some pictures.

If you have some good plans for a shooting bench through those up too.

Thanks guys

Ryan

Me and my buddy built one last year. Ours is 10'x10'. It is about 3' off the ground and sloped a bit down towards the rear so the water runs off it. It is perfect for both of us to shoot prone off of. I don't think 8' will be long enough, your feet may be hanging off the end.

That's nice looking. We are thinking about putting a roof on ours so we can Use it in the winter, so we should be able to build the platform level.

Yeah, ours is probably gonna get a roof this year as well, would be nice to have some shelter from the heat and cold. It's just hard to be out there improving the platform when we could be shooting. :D

Question, everyone says that you can't put up any permanent structures on your own land or else it gets called a range according to the regs and needs to meet all the safety criteria for berms and all the paperwork. Talk is of target stands, etc. Would the same apply to one of these benches, particularly if you put a roof on it?

Just wondering?

Yep, I've built 3 of those and they're perfect. Only change is that I don't sink it into the ground, and it's still rock solid plus more easily moved if necessary.

I only have one that was sunk in the ground between three or four years ago. It is as solid today as the day I sunk it in the ground. Great design and easy to build.

Those pictures remind me of the farmlands of Ontario. Beautiful land alright in BC, if you like rain, hills and think a day of long ranging is at the 200 meter range. Mama, I'm coming home to show the world that 18 inch barrel .308 rifles are perfect for 1000 yard shots. God bless Ontario and Sask. and the million miles of anyway which way i want to shoot.God bless hoofing 2km up the hill tops of B.C. to get your 1000 yard shot only to be chased by Mr. Grizzly. God bless 870 police shottys and 3 inch slugs for making Mr. Grizzly leave for 30 minutes so i can shoot as fast as i can on some spray painted rocks two hilltops over. That's alotta God Blessin for a non religious dude. Cya soon Ontario. PS. anybody wanna buy my place?
