All,

I'm pretty much a novice pistol shooter. I've shot them several times but I don't shoot them enough at moderate range to be able to truly develop skills and good habits.

I have one thing against me... I'm right-hand/left-eye dominant.

I have found that I tend to shoot better with one hand than two-handed with all calibers, from .22 to .45.

When I shoot two handed, I use a modified Weaver stance. My thoery is that I'm over-tensing my left arm, which is causing tremors... How firm should the left arm be in a modified Weaver stance?

Dont over grip.
Grip the gun as high up on the gun as is comfortable with propper trigger contact.
hold it like your shaking hands with a buisness associate.firm, but not a death grip.
your non dominant hand should provide 60% of the grip with the shooting hand 40%.
this works better with the issocolies (spelling).
with weaver like prpoulx says push and pull issometrically but dont over do it
regards

I don't see what the left-eye/right-hand problem is with a handgun? In your modified Weaver simply raise the sights 2" up and left.
If I'm shooting iron sights with both eyes open, I find it easier to use my left eye on the sights because my arm/hand blocks the front sight from my right eye. Otherwise I sometimes get a double target or a double front sight.
When I'm going for a long or more deliberate shot, I "unmodify" the stance and lock my right arm which allows me to get a better "cheek-weld" on my bicep. Then I'll usually close my left eye too.

Using a H/G with your condition isn't a problem because you can shift your body to see the sights with your left eye. It becomes a problem with long guns.

You maybe able to train your eye with an eyepatch.

As for shooting one or two handed, it depends if you are shooting ISSF, which dictates one hand.

RePete.

Just for fun, try shooting with your shoulders square to the target, rather then weak foot forward in the Weaver stance. This may feel a bit odd, and certainly doesn't look like the movies, but with most "less experienced" hangun shooters, can make things much more accurate.

Just a suggestion!

Thanks for the advice. I went through a few hundred rounds of pistol ammo today and I found the Isoscoles stance (what Nelly described) worked much better and gave me more accuracy than either one-handed or the Weaver stance.

I'm the same as you agit. Right handed, left eye dominant. I shoot Isocoles with both eyes open, pistol or revolver held in the center of my body.
