What distance do you guys shoot your ARs (NO optics) from? 25m? 50m? 100m? 200m? farther?

don't forget to mention the calibre and the barrel length.

I shoot 5-shot groups at an 18" gong at 300m (or is it yards? don't remember) with irons.
From the standing position I can hit 3 rounds out of 5, rarely getting 4/5 on a good group and always 5/5 when prone shooting at a 14" gong.

I shoot with a 16" A2-pattern AR15 (A stock Armalite LE M15A2).

I was just shooting my 20" AR-15 at the 200m targets on Saturday with the “Iron Sights”.

The targets are very small and difficult to see, however I was able to get multiple 8" groups (5 shots) which I was very happy with (windage and elevation were perfect); I was sitting of course with sandbags and using factory American Eagle 55gr ammunition.

I had sighted in my rifle at 50m with -4 under the 6/3 setting and the small aperture. For 200m shooting I set the elevation to the 6/3 setting and switched to the large aperture; coincidently it still shoots POA at 50m with these settings (which is now where I will leave it 99% of the time).

I'd like to shoot farther but our range is limited to 200m; the trajectory is very flat with my 20" AR... as I said all targets up to and including 200m are "bang on" with no compensating.

why would you use the large aperture for long range and the small aperture for short range? Should be the other way around unless you're using a method strange to me....

The large aperture on the AR is good up to 200m, the small one is for 300-800m. I believe you have to use the small aperture to sight it in and then shoot as directed.

X2 but with A2 profile barrel, and issue IVI, I shot a precision match with the same rifle one year, and scored 40 out of 50 at 800, but that was with a 6x scope and issue IVI.;)
I wish I could shoot some real 5.56... :(

20" or 14.5" 1/9" twist rifle or carbine out to 500m for service conditions, out to 100m for tac rifle, Colt 3x scope, Elcan and Leupold 3.5-10x40 LRT have been utilized. I have had the highest scores with the Elcan.
