Is it legal to shoot clays with a shotgun from a boat? Heading out into the Georgia Straight in a couple weeks and was wondering if we could shoot some clay pigeons as we sailed along. Assuming of course there are no other boats nearby.

Yea you can. The only restrictions are when hunting from a boat under power. Just make sure you aren't using semis and tossing all the shells in the water because you won't retrieve them.

Are clay targets biodegradable? Or would I have to find special ones that are?
Hadn't thought about the lead shot being bad for the fishies...thanks eastcoastsoxfan
There are biodegradable...or more environmentally friendly clays made as normal clays are made from pitch I believe. Further, they are somewhat tougher that the regular strain I hear.

Steel shot not required as you are not hunting migratory game birds, but I personally would refrain from shooting over shallows that attract waterfowl. As for picking up spent hulls, it would set a good example...but if spent hulls in the environment were such a big deal, then the industry would have been mandated to produce "bio hulls" and wad columns years ago...like some areas in the UK and Europe.

you might want to check the lead shot part out with the proper authorities it has to do with contamination of the environment in general not necessary waterfowl specific.
