Shooting from sitting in a chair

The actual answer is to grab your pistol with one hand, flip the table over with your other, and take cover behind it while blasting away and screaming at the top of your lungs.

Just like an '80's action hero. ;)

AND STEVO NAILS IT!! :)
Hmmmmm..... that might need to make an appearance in the August 3-Gun. :)

Bottom line - today, watching the shooting, the Standard class winner and world champion (Grauffel) the Open class winner (Skazaks) both stood up to shoot.

I tried shooting one stage standing, one stage sitting. I couldn't believe how unsteady I felt shooting the stage from a sitting position.

So, standing up is the answer as far as I can tell.

This tell me that I'll have to try it, test it, observe it for myself and find the best way for me...

But still curious "why" taking time to stood up... what's the difference between shooting sitting or standing... so many "Why" :runaway::runaway::runaway:

Let the #s do the talking.
I sat on my butt for the strong hand stage, got a HF of 5.865, 1 other production (5.88), 3 open (they'd better!) and 1 standard shooter (5.9) got a better HF.
I don't practice strong hand sitting.
Maybe if we didn't start with our hand hovering over the gun, I could see standing up being an advantage.

Too many variables would dictate whether it's better to sit/stand.

Start position : how quick is it to grab the gun
Distance : farther targets might warrant a more familiar shooting stance
Position of the chair : how easy is it to actually stand up? What angle are you leaning back
Target presentation : is sitting going to limit visibility and wide transitions may be a problem

I think it would differ depending on the stage and how confident you are with your shooting skills.

HI; I would have shot sitting, but after 25 year of cowboy action shooting I have done it many times.
By the way took the wife there checking out the event and stages. What a friendly informative bunch of range official. Wife enjoyed herself.
Good on all the range workers.

I have shot stages like that and I think it is preference. I shot it sitting down to save time but most everyone (top shooters also) stood up. I guess if you are not comfortable or feel you can get your weight forward and stance forward sitting you may be more comfortable shooting standing then shooting. That I can see especially weak hand. Plus you dont normally shoot sitting down nor do you practice it. If you want to ensure the best speed and hits then shooting it the way you have practiced are most comfortable. Again I stayed sitting because i thought standing up takes more time. I may have shot a little slower because of the slightly more awkward position. In all reality I dont think you would loose much if any time standing up. Try it at the range and time it and score it for hit factor and see which way is better for you.

From my experience with strong, or weak hand shooting.. you may want to get the RO's blessing on non shooting hand position.. Rule book "seems" clear.. but often interpreted differently..

A lot of the time the mag isn't in or the slide isn't racked so you can stand in the same amount of time. You definitely want to stand if you have to move to another shooting position
.

The bench wasn't comfortable and it was a little wobbly. I don't practice shooting WH/ SH from a sitting position so I didn't stay seated. We had procedurals on our squad for touching or placing a hand on the bench. You can control recoil better by standing and angling in your body. I'm sure Grauffel stood to shoot so as to go easy on us.

Turned the bench sideways. Angled body forward, non shooting hand to center of chest and shot. The way the stage was set standing would have cost me time. Everyone has their preference.
