A little fun shooting at 100 yards with my S&W586

Get out and shoot those Wheelguns. Please make sure your range operator is cool with you shooting a pistol on your 100 yard range. I made arrangements to do so and suggest you double check your range rules.

The sun was setting and my camera angle sucked (due to a wasp nest) enough excuses the old eyes got contact down range using 38 spc out of a 6" barrel.

Have fun shooting.

We used to be able to shoot the 100/200 yard at Silverdale, but of course the CFO put a stop to that, looked like too much fun. Good shooting btw.

Good shooting!

The antis say that in the city you don't need a handgun but when you consider that if someone loves to shoot, only has access to urban ranges and that great skill is required to shoot a handgun accurately at any distance (my range officer likes to tell me "great group - for a shotgun") and you come to the conclusion that a handgun is the most practical firearm for a city dwelling target shooter!

And 100 yards takes it to a new level.

ya that is fantastic shooting with 38! wish my range had a 100 yd gong (though no doubt i would just frustrate myself)

Nice... Mi amigo and I have our 4.2 686s dialled in to hit the 100m gong at our range. Know exactly where to aim off to consistently hit. People are AMAZED when we do it! And yes, single action is the only way to pull it off!

Yup I remember shooting the gong at 100 with my 1911, good old days and no one got hurt, but like you said too much fun to be legal!

That's some nice shooting. 100 yards for a handgun is DARN respectable even for a target that big. In fact you make it look too easy. Could you at least take a little longer and grimace a little? It would make the rank and file respect your achievement that much more.... :D

On your double action I've got a suggestion. I shoot BY FAR more DA than SA with my revolvers. To the point where I'm often MORE accurate in DA than in SA. I feel that you're taking too long to shoot in DA mode. And I suspect that you're "staging" the trigger and snapping the shot off when you THINK it's lined up. Neither of these practices will lead to ideal DA accuracy.

Instead work on pulling your DA shots in sooner and in a smooth manner. Do not stage the trigger. Instead focus on the sight picture and pull through to the limit of the trigger travel with a nice post shot follow through.

In no time at all you'll be hitting that gong as often in DA as you did in SA

And yes, we don't shoot handguns, revolvers especially, at such distances as often as we should.

Yeah I was staging it but I will try your method. I started shooting PPC and revolvers 3 years ago and that's how I learned but I think your right.
