Shooting non-corrosive after corrosive to eliminate rust?

What about compressed air? Should be able to move the salts away. I got some corrisive ammo but have never shot it yet.

Or not, buy some G96 instead, and forget the mess of pouring boiling water all over your firearm in the tub. Why people insist on using water is beyond me. You still have to lube your gun afterwards and the G96 kills two birds with one stone. It also smells like bubble gum. What's not to like?
 
Boiling water may not even take 15 minutes. I douse mine with boiling water then spray the foaming bore cleaner down the barrel while everything is still hot. Go for a coffee. Come back and swab it out and relube. Done.

G96 takes me 15 seconds. If you enjoy wasting time with water and chancing that some of it didn't evaporate after all that's your business, but I can't recommend the practice. And yes I've done it a few times. It's a mess, it's time consuming, and wholly unnecessary unless you don't have access to proper cleaning solvents. I don't even scrub when I'm short of time, I do a basic field strip and paper-towel off the grime, spray G96 down the bore and gas tube, put it away. Easy and never any rust.

Most major shops should carry it. It was on hiatus for around a year or two because the labelling allegedly didn't conform to Canadian standards. It's back now but the price has gone up. It's still the best lubricant/cleaner I've ever used.

Spray some windex or any ammonia-based aqueous cleaner down the barrel, the ammonia helps remove copper. Then G96. Done.

Salt residue from corrosive ammo is not soluble in most bore cleaners! The salt would still be left behind.

Don't take dumb chances when protecting your gun is easy and cheap!

The topic was preventing rust from firing corrosive ammo. Water will do that perfectly. Obviously (to most) after drying one would use bore cleaner just like one normally would at any other time.

Please note that the plural of "you" is "you" in English.

In particular I'm looking at 7.62x39 ammo if that makes any difference.

Is there any merit to this, or is it just plain hocus pocus?

Its fine....just like drinking a diet Coke after eating a chocolate cake will neutralize all calories and render them ineffective, your idea will work just fine
