Definately standing in my earlier years. As time has progressed, we've got all the fancy tree stands and ground blinds becoming the norm. Add a bait pile and there is a lot more waiting than mobile hunting so I see a sitting shot becoming the popular choice.

in rough order of field application
Standing freehand (nothing wrong with this if you practice not relaeasing the sear until your on target)
Standing support of tree
squat, knees on elbows
squat knees on elbows back, hip shoulder against support (super rock solid)
prone only had 3 times I could use a prone position always something in the way

I always try to use the sitting position as I find it very steady when allowed and there isn't any tall grass in my way.I would plop myself down damn near anywhere when a shot at a biggame animal arose snow, wet ground ect.The last 3 years I do a combination of sitting in a stand or stillhunting.

I've been wondering about those shooting sticks but i dont know anyone that uses them... Im a more mobile hunter and I want to keep the gear down to a minimum - but if the sticks will give me a stable platform i could be convinced to buy something...

Usually shoot sitting, it get me up high enough to see over the prairie grass, much more stable than offhand. 2nd most used would probably be standing with some sort of rest, fencepost, tree etc., then offhand.

I try to get the most practice offhand since it is my worst shooting position, I usually shoot gophers offhand for example.

I voted sitting 'cause I've been doing that alot lately ....turkey and deer
But I'll also do some bunnie hunting and thats all standing freehand.

I prefer using whatever is at my disposal to rest on or against to steady my shot. Either a rock, fallen tree, skidoo seat, my knees if need be, but pretty much anything to steady myself. I can hit vitals sized targets all day at 100 yards in the standing position at the range, but when I have a huge parka on, 18 pounds of snow boots, 4 layers of clothes, snotcicles hanging out my yingyang, and I am out of breath, its only fair and right for the animal I'm aiming at to do my best not to botch the shot. That means .........I use a rest. No matter what.
I just have never seemed to be able to duplicate shooting range conditions out in the field when I am hunting. Apples and oranges. I am ALWAYS out of breath when I come across game.
