Shooting shot in rifle.

yes but what you need is your targets either extremely close or very widely spread. I tried it once in my 54 with deep rifling and at 15 or 20 yards I had a pattern of about 4 feet with no two pellets closer than 6 inches. I did not try to refine my load :>) :>)

I have a friend who shoots .410 shotshells in his .444 and bags grouse at very close ranges. So, as Mooncoon says it can be done.

You'd just need to put an over powder and or filler wad on top of your powder, then the shot, then an over shot wad. If you just want to try it out without buying/making special wads - just use newspaper or magazine paper.

If you really want to hunt upland game with a muzzleloader you'd be better off buying a smoothbore.

The thing with rifles is there is no choke. Which is why they can work at close range.

The other thing with rifles is that the rifling can and will cause a pattern of a torus. AKA, your pattern would be a doughnut shaped. Once again, it won't matter at close range.

i have fired shot out of my 54 robinson.

i used those plastic "sabots?" that hold round balls. one inverted over the powder, and one in front of the shot.

i actually bagged a ruffed grouse on the wing on a passing shot. i looked all over it to see where i hit it ... one pellet through the right eye.

the world's unluckiest grouse.
