shooting sig 226

Hi I have a sig226 and it shoots jacketed bullets great but won't shot lead worth a dam. I reload and cast and was wondering if anyone with a 226 has had any luck with lead . I'm coming to the conclusion the 226 is only going to shot jacketed bullets ?? Thanks, George

I have shot lead that grouped very well out of my 226. Lead build up was the problem for me so I went to plated.

Tagged for interest. I just got a Sig226 a few weeks ago and have only shot FMJ through it but made up 200rnds of cast pills I was going to try out next range session.

I have good accuracy and very little leading using Bullet Barn 124's with 231 or 700x.

I had a similar problem through my CZ75, it would only shoot lead well if the loads were really slow. Mostly I had to switch to plated.

I did eventually manage to shoot cast out of my 226 and they grouped well.

I found a bullet and load, fairly quickly that my 226 really likes. Unfortunately, the .40 cal 175gr LSWC from Excel is now pretty scarce and I only have a few hundred left.

I put a lot of lead bullets through my 9mm 226, not sure what your loads are but here is my experience.

With full power reloads I found that heavier bullets (135-147gr) worked far better than 124's. 124's at 1000fps or so would quickly lead up the rifling and accuracy would degrade. 135-147's at 850-900fps were accurate enough for IPSC and ran reliably.
