I was at a range in Spokane last week shooting a variety of Kimber, S&W and Ruger snub nosed .357 CCW revolvers. All I can say is wow, so much fun, recoil and flash. We are really missing out here!

That is all.

Snub nosed revolvers roamed the great Kanadian prairies not so long ago. They were mostly killed off in the 90s. Small herds still exist.

If you liked the .357s, you should have tried a .44mag M29 in a 2.5" barrel with 240gr JHPs!

When I spend some time in New Hampshire at the farm, I shoot my Ruger Alaskan 44 magnum 2.5 inch in my backyard. It is very powerful and fantastic.

Well - "some" of us are missing out... ; - )

I've had both S&W Model 19 2 1/2" brl and Ruger Security Six 2 3/4" brl .357 Mag snubbies before.

While lots of 'fun' at first, eventually, shooting "barn burner" loads thru 'em the novelty wears off.

These days I'm more interested to see how accurate regular target loads are/can be thru any of my wheelguns.

But yeah, back in the day..... boom, boom, boom! :p

I started at 5 yrds and moved to 15 yrds, the groups opened substantially with the short barrel and bad sights. I am not sure the novelty will ever wear off for me though. My 4.2" 686 is a tack driver but not nearly as fun.

Did you ever shoot one, SA? That would be on my list for sure if I had a 12.6. Looks like i’ll settle for a 4.2.

This one would be a handful too

Funny, i had those same guns and after a few "fun" magnum sessions, I also settled on a steady diet of .38's. Much easier on the gun and shooter too, but I had no doubt the Ruger would handle the magnums better than the S&W in the long run.

I have never shot the 44 with a shot barrel, but had a few in 357, The best was a Lou Horton 686 3 in, I could shoot that thing as good as a 6 in at 50yds.
Just sold a 2 or 2 1/2 in Ruger stainless S.S. , fun for a bit, Most fun is indoors with the fellows that wanted to try it., load 2 38's and 3 357m's, so they can get the feel.
BTW, they know what the loads are.
Another interesting one is the short NAA in 22 mag, the 1.5" barrel, I wish I had that one back.

I bought for my daughter a NAA Pug 22 mag 1 inch barrel, she thought it would be a soft pistol to shoot.

Well no, this little thing make the biggest, brightest ball of fire and is kicking.

I have order from my LGS in NH the 22 lr cilynder

Yes, gdawg. Shot one back in the 80s when I was young and foolish. Got my thumb snagged on the cylinder latch during recoil causing a little bleed...lol!

I can imagine it wasn’t fun. The 4.2 with mundane factory ammo is bad enough. But I have to say a grip with proper fit works wonders. Basic hogue rubbers feel nice in the hand until I shoot and then they really pound the web between the index and thumb. The new stock rubbers and pachymers, while ugly imo, fit me much better and handle heavy recoil very well.

IIRC, the one I shot had the S&W round butt wood grips with finger grooves. They were smooth and polished and hard!

The after market grips of the time were bulky which defeated the purpose of a 2.5" revolver.

I loaded up some black powder loads for my S&W snubby .38 once. Don't get no funner than that. Bit of a chore cleaning up mind you, but worth it.

While I love my M19 snubby (and M12 snubby) I had to pull my 4" .357 mag revolver on a big NW BC black bear sow at close range and believe me, it felt like I was holding a pellet gun. I was glad that she was more scared of my big German Shepherd than me and bugged off with her cubs. No harm, no foul.
