Shooting sticks

I'm going to use these Shooting Sticks for spot and stalk black bears.

I made these out of thin green poplars. After cutting them (about 6' lengths) I stripped the bark off with an old hunting knife. Astonishing how much they dried out in a single hot, windy day.

I tied them together with leather work boot laces.

They are very bright still. I am going to rub them with some black mud to stain them and take the shine off.

Looks good, what's on the top, black tape?

Are they lose enough to carry one handed?

sweet. I just use the Stoney Point steady stix with some camo wrap on them

I used a set from longgrassoutfitters on my safari last year. They take some getting used to, it helps to put some downward pressure on them.

After practising I could hit the 200 metre chicken at our range probably 8 out of ten times.

I have used this method to improvise a good shooting position on rough ground, but never really carried it anywhere. It might be difficult to walk any distance through bush with those.

Maybe you could get a monopod, or pair of shooting sticks at your local store or something. Is it Stony Point that makes them? I cant remember. but there is even the kind that attaches to a sling swivel stud and then folds out like a shock corded tent pole. Seems cool to me. Would be good for long range gophers where the grass is too high to go prone.

Blargon, the top is wrapped with black hockey tape. Canadian heritage, eh?

I rubbed them with wet black mud from the wife's flower bed and it changed the look of 'em quite a bit! Yes they are easily carried one-handed!

Now I need to spend a bit of time at the range practicing with them.
