Finally got my african out shooting. Working up some hand loads using 250 gr gmx and varget. I was shocked at how much of a pussy cat this thing was on the bench. My 45-70 guide gun was much more of a beast. (350 gr@ 1900 fps)

Winner winner chicken dinner

Two almost in the same hole.

50 yard two shot groups except for the first which was three.

I can settle for a bit less speed if it means shooting the same hole. But there were no pressure signs yet so I will give it a try next batch.

Got a couple of pounds of 4198 to get rid of. EE here i come.

Really impressed with the groups it made, not so much luck with my 308 mx today. Thats for another thread.

I did go to max for hornadys data and the group really opened up.

hornady on that specific combo bullet powder didnt push it very moderate.

if you look for different reloading books you ll get a little higher load that will safely work.

and your last load 69.5 is a very good one so this not bad spreading ...

The reason it's a pussycat to shoot is because you are shooting 250gr bullets at 300gr bullet velocities. There is nothing wrong with that if it is accurate and suits your needs.

You should drop down to one shot groups and see how the groups tighten up... I'm consistently 0.000" CTC.

I only have 20 brass to work with right now. Two more bags of 50 are on the way, then i can start loading three or four at each charge weight. Most times we are stuck shooting with whatever we can get our hands on.

You need to make yourself some more brass from 300 Win mag and put some powder in them cases.............I load to 2700 fps with 250s in my 35 Whelen and 2600 fps with 270s in my .366 Wagner (9.3X62)..........what's the point of having all that case capacity if you aren't even going to load it to Whelen velocities??????? I'm sure it's very pleasant to shoot at 358 Win ballistics, so is a 358 Win pleasant to shoot. Stoke that puppy up, my son has a couple loads in his African that exceed 3000 fps with 260 ABs and no pressure signs at all, believe he's using Win 760 and RL 17 in his, could be using RL 15 with the 260 as well, not 100% sure. I use RL 15 with 270s in my H&H for over 2900 fps with a 24" barreled Rem 700.........I haven't found time to chronograph and test loads for my 375 Ruger African yet, or my 378 Wby, or my 375 Wby, or my Sako 375 H&H..........or 50 other rifles and cartridges I have test loads for............I have become a slave to my home, shop and property................:(:(:mad::confused::confused::confused:

I thought retirement was supposed to give me more time to shoot and hunt and do the things I truly want to...........I WAS WRONG !!!!!!!
