Shooting the blunderbuss today

while holding it in yor hands?

Of course not. Remote via string on a weighted rest, at a distance & behind the wooden lattice curtain at our outdoor range.
You can plainly see from the pics that the barrel is not banana pealed or bulged.

Edit: You also assume I paid full retail price for it. You would be wrong on this point.

Brutus, no need to be defensive, you said you fired the proof load and still had you fingers and nose. What was I suppose to think? odd that you could sort out the required proof load for a gun that you had no idea about the manufacture of.....

BTW all a proof load tells you is that a gun did not let loose on that load on that day, it says absolutely nothing about anything else.

So did you take a look at the breeching set up yet?

nope never gave a thought to what you paid for it. Any mention of price I made was was for the benefit of board memebers that might like to get one. Not many smart guys would drop new dollar on one from LA but lots of guys would be happy to pay the second hand price for the hoot of a couple range days with one.

4 bore hmmmmm

Unfortunately, despite the coolness factor, the 4 bore is mostly good for inflicting permenant nerve damage on the shooter. Not to be toyed with unless you really have a need. There is a guy down south who posts on some forums and he covers a sheet of 4x8 plywood with the pattern from his, great in a zombie apocalypse but not worth the potential self inflicted damage IMHO. Now a 4 bore punt gun paired with a repeal of the Migratory Game act and fun could be had!

You have a point. I don't think the stock shown with the kits would be up to the recoil. Maybe with beefy less antiquated looking stock it would be more shootable. I would certainly not wish to shoot a 4 bore without a proper stock (wide at the butt and tall).

The 4 bore is probably more along the lines of a rampart gun, which usually had a heavy wrought iron pintle, and beefy stocks. Btw antique rampart guns seem to be very pricey if they are in good condition.
