Shooting way too high....

I have recently purchased a used Savage 24F in 30-30 over 20 gauge. I always wanted one and will be using it as my walk about grouse/deer gun.

When I use the rifle barrel it shoots way high, like 4 feet at 75 yards... Thats with the rear sight as low as it goes too!

So I guess I need to add some height to the front, should I just remove the barrel band which doubles as the front sight and get someone to add a sort of welding on it? I can then file down as required?

Thanks, Troutseeker

I would think twice before you do anything with the front sight. I believe it is pot metal, and I don't think it is weldable. I heard somewhere they are hard to replace ( buy). You could check with a magnet to see if it is steel and then maybe weldable. You could maybe file the rear notch lower or remove the devise that raises the sight. You could also try a different weight of bullet, different weights shoot to different places.
