Shooting with astigmatism

I’ve recently found that astigmatisms affect how you see red dots. I’ve got a holosun on my tavor with magnifier and the magnifier definitely reduces the ‘smear’ of the sight but I still notice it. I have a dual illuminated rmr on a glock and I can’t see half the triangle. I can see the top tip, so not a huge deal but does anybody have experience with brands to reduce the effect of astigmatism?

I find lowering the brightness helps with me.

Projected light optics are bad. As in red dots, aimpoint, holosun etc.

Prismatic sights are good. A.k.a holographic sights, eotech, vortex spitfire series.

I also find focusing on the target vs the reticle helps as well. Sounds odd but focusing on the dot makes it appear even more like a blob for me.

I’ve found that larger dots help, and I’ve also found that Trijicon dot sights work better than Aimpoints.

I sold my aimpoints and went with an LPVO (Burris XTR II 1-8)

I had to switch to a scope. Even at 1.75x it is enough to allow me to see clearly and give me a nice field of view.

I really like the holosun 510C elite green dot and the 512C red dot I have. I have a bad astigmatism. If I had to choose between the two it would be the green. Seems a bit sharper to me. Indoors, or low light, I'm constantly reminded of my astigmatism if the brightness is too high. Outdoors/brighter background, I love it.

Yup low power settings and good glasses.

I generaly use scopes now, i have issues with many iron sites as well

I've moved to etched reticle low power variable optics with true 1x. I find the Vortex Strike Eagle series to be the best value for dollar. I've tried others that are 3-4 times the price but didn't find them to be Four times as good. I find even my budget 1-4x scopes with a standard crosshair reticle still work very well for me, and I am a far better shooter with them than I ever was with a smeared red dot holographic reticle.

I turn my aim point brightness way down. When it’s bright it’s kinda like a star instead of a dot

On the Tavor you can flip up the rear iron sight to get a pinhole camera effect.

Give an aim point micro T2 a try, it’s designed to reduce this affect and when I had a friend look through mine (he has astigmatism while I do not) he confirmed it was much much better than other RDS he’s used.

I saw no difference with the T2 or H2 than any other 2 MOA Aimpoint.

I too have astigmatism and the only thing that works really clear and crisp are holosuns

I have severe astigmatism, My RMR and T2 are the best I found. I shoot both eyes open as well.
